Ty Wilingham would be an intersting candidate. he's certainly accustomed to recruiting at places (Stanford and ND) where the academics limited him in who he could go after. He managed to go 44-36 at Stanford with 4 Bowl appearances in 7 years, including a PAC-10 hampionship and Rose Bowl. Hasn't exactly lit it up at UW, but price tag seems awful steep.
Im pretty sure stanford won the pac 10 when it was at one of its lowest points in history. That was when a different team won the conference every year. I remember washington state, washington, stanford, ucla all went to rose bowls during this time period and not one win by a pac 10 team.
Ok, I made it to Apache Junction AZ. I have bidness in Scottsdale tomorrow. Yes it was a glorious meal at the In 'N Out. The closest burger in Dallas to me would be Jake's. They put a hint of thousand island at INO too. I love In N' Out's gloriously understated menu. It consists of a single burger or double cheese burger and there are combos available with fries and drink. A few shake choices and that's it. I placed my post between bites. Anyway, wish they would come to Carolina and Texas. A treat anytime I get out here. "Your announcer is Bill Melton."
Some things about Ty, since I am very familiar with him (being a Huskies fan):
* He doesn't like to recruit JUCOs. In fact, I'm not sure UW plans to bring any for the next recruiting year. * Is known for teaching more than just football. Players are taught respect, self-control, discipline, and responsibility. * He will do what isn't necessarily popular * Secretive - he closes all practices to the public and media * Has consistently shown a gradual year-by-year improvement while at UW * Doesn't necessarily enjoy the spotlight - despite the fact he has been at helm of two huge programs in a row * Ty Willingham has been known to refer to Ty Willingham in the 3rd person during press conferences * His biggest fault and why UW fans want him gone - He is not Don James Ty is not a bad coach with x's and o's. I don't think he is a bad recruiter either. I think he would have success at SMU, but he is not going to be flashy or stir SMU fans up into a frenzy, if that's what you are looking for. He quietly goes about business. It's a crappy job but someone's gotta do it.
Why would a BCS coach come to SMU?Unless our money is good, I can't imagine why an active BCS coach would come to SMU unless all name openings were filled. For instance, if Ty were available then Baylor might want him as much as we do. I could live with Ty, but don't think he is coming here.

speaking of sleep: i did not get 5 minutes of sleep las night because of this coaching search. i think its literally killing me ![]()
just think how miserable you'll be when we wind up with a "huh?" or "wtf?" hire like Chan Gailey or some nondescript coordinator.
that's why im so upset about all this. i know its gonna turn out like that unless Orsini pulls a Coach Doh out of his arse and shocks us all ![]()
