In fact, I have a feeling I have a lot more supporters out their on this point but they're understandably demoralized from Orsini's failures thus far to land a coach. Be honest to yourselves, Johnson is the ulitmate "Cop Out" hire if there ever was one.
No Whitney, biggest cop out ever would be THIS: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/ ... nett_x.htm

You're right FirePhil. And I remember how supportive everyone on this page was of that decision. Now it's all Paul Johnson is going to save SMU...Yeah Right.......That guy is a joke with an 3rd overtime win over Notre Dame (who suck major @ss this year)..........big deal..........Bring on one of the Big Boys.

You mean like someone that hasn't coached a down of football in nearly a decade?

Stl,
You mean like someone who can bring in 1st tier players. Yes! Sorry, but Bill Belechick couldn't do [deleted] with guys SMU has. We don't need a Master Coach, we need a master recruiter. Why can't you people see this? LSU and Texas aren't generally good every year bec Les and Mack are beyond smart when it comes to coaching....It's called recruiting. Learn the word and learn it well....recruiting

I'm not endorsing one candidate over the other, I'll just keep my peace for now. Mr. Bennett was considered an excellent recruiter with tremendous Texas ties as well. Now that's not to say it's smart to straight up compare a Bennett and a Bowden. But the sentiment was there.
I like the idea of Bowden because of the name, and his success at Auburn. Initially it seems like a very sexy pick. Having said that, there's a lot more factoring into the decision, and I like the way that this is playing out. At this stage in the game, when things are said and done, we will be happy.

Chuck, glad there is somone else out their who actually understands football. I could live with Fran. Just prefer Bowden over Fran, that's all. SMU needs a name, not an experiment.
