M Shula can beat Mike Leach's Red Raiders and their cigarette/manure-scented fans (see 2005 Cotton Bowl), so that is reason enough for me to give him the nod. he also beat UT-Knoxville that year.

Alabama beat Tennessee 6-3. No doubt the result of Shula's high powered offense. Also only managed to score 13 against Tech - the worst defense in America. There is a chance our offense would get much worse if he were the coach. He had nearly unlimited resources at Alabama and decided to hire Dave Rader as his offensive coordinator. What was Dave Rader doing before coming to Alabama you might ask - selling insurance. Shula can do one thing and he can do it well - recruit. But he has never recruited with the kinds of restrictions we have at SMU.

Shula's name came up for a lot of job early and then has not come up at all. That would indicate he is not interested in returning to college coaching. He would be a good, not great hire.

re: "That would indicate he is not interested in returning to college coaching"

It does???????????

I think we could easily see him as the next HC at SMU.

Orsini appears to think highly of him.

What could Shula be making as the QB coach for the Jacksonville Jags?

Is he making anywhere near what SMU would be offering?

I never heard his name mentioned in connection with any job.

Perhaps Mr. Ford was buying Shula's dad some Mohitos and El Presidente's. Don Shula if you recall early in this process called the SMU job a pretty good job. Butter up pop, and let him badger his son. There will be some NFL job openings next year. But will Mike jump ahead of current college head coaches and OC's? I am not sure about that. To really revive his career Mike could be a good plan B again remembering that he'll be gone if he's successful. But Mike Shula would in my view be a bigger risk for SMU than Barnett or Franchione who have proven ability to turn a program around.
