Because it's more fun this way. We get to track airplanes, climb drain pipes, crawl through air ducts, stake out at airports looking for signs of a head coach candidate. Orsini is shaping us into spies. That way we can spy the QB and keep him from running and maybe get a few picks.

I hope I am wrong. I would love to wake up tomorrow to news that Gary Barnett has been hired by Orsini. You have to look at the big picture though. Barnett is probably history. Orsini knows he would take flack for hiring him now with only two weeks before the dead period for recruiting starts when he could have had him 7 weeks ago.

Again, if it is true that Barnett will interview this week, then Orsini had to call him this week telling him "SMU wants to interview you". If true, I think Orsini is just interested in making the right choice....Believe me, after Barnett gets here and starts recruiting etc., knowbody who wants to see our program succeed will think anything but positives about Orsini hiring Barnett.

We spoke with Orsini on the boulevard and I am very doubtful Barnett has ever been in the running.

Sure - if Barnett is hired. If Barnett is hired I'd be amazed. I'll bet you a ham sandwich he is not. Orsini would lose a lot of credibility.

Orsini cannot hire Barnett or Bowden now. He will look like a fool. And I know he is not willing to do that.
SO probably had to to make the good effort to placate Turner. Now that all the virgin's are spoken for or not interested, SO can go after the legitimate candidates with no egg on his face whatsoever.

One other thing I would like say about Barnett at SMU and the issue of whether he would stay ? Barnett says he likes the idea of "living and coaching in Texas". He is what 61 or 62 ? I could see him at SMU for 7 to 10 years and then retiring. He could certainly rebuild our program during that period of time and I'm talking about Championships. He would succeed and there would be a good possiblity he would stay at his age until the program is turned completely around.

The last several weeks are all the "indication" we need, aren't they? Of course, Steve-O isn't obligated to share suchh things.

I kind of disagree that Orsini would have egg on his face by hiring someone off of list number 2. It would be one difficult press conference--and realistically, who will even be there? Kate? Those will be some hard hitting questions that Steve-O couldn't possibly field! It would be a higher risk hire, especially for SMU, but as long as the coach succeeds and stays clean, Steve-O will be a hero. If you always make the safe move, you'll never get anywhere.

What indicators are you using? I think they're broken.

That's true, but nobody is going to mistake Cougar High with Harvard and Yale and Stanford. Let's not use that academic sinkhole as a model of intellectual strength, huh?

If it does happen, who will look like a fool?
