Yeah, and, we would supposedly not be interviewing him until Jan. 4 or so, at the earliest???? What a big disaster this has all been.

I think you are probably right.
Jones will get a raise out of the deal.
The positive for SO is hopefully he got to interview Jones in Hawaii @ least of couple of times.

I'm beginning to change my opinion & say lets just hire Fran & get it over with.

No luck on the Hawaii trip

Why wait until after the bowls to interview Jones? Did Michigan, Ole Miss and WVU wait? I just don't understand. I do think you have a shot at Jones depending on what he is makinf at Hawaii. Everyone thinks they are a gimmick team/offense and perhaps playing games in the central time zone are appealing to him.

Even if it is a long shot, I have been hearing June's name whispered for a while now. He has complained about the poor facilities, and small budget a number of times. Plus, we could at the very least double his current salary. If we did get him.....better put some fresh bulbs in the scoreboard.

I thought the scoreboard held up pretty well considering all the points scored by opponents this year.

Seriously, D is the major concern for me.

Jones, Fran, Coker, Bowden, Barnett, Gill or whoever better find some fellas that can play some D.

June Jones would be a tremendous hire. However, I think he's pulling our leg and trying to get H.U. to up the ante. But stranger things have happened. Anything is better than Fran and Coker. I mean ANYTHING.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Will the "splash" of hiring Jones translate to recruiting Texas? Interesting note from Jone's wikipedia description:

As for the recruits that Jones usually goes for as a coach, the profiles of typical targets are: (1) Polynesian kids, (2) kids who have lived in Hawaii or have family here, (3) military kids with no permanent home, (4) kids recovering from injuries and (5) kids from broken homes, (6) the rare kid from the penal system.[12] "Some of my best players I've recruited out of jail," Jones says in reference to current quarterback Colt Brennan's past legal troubles.[13]

Wow...that strategy might not fly at SMU...

Pony Patrol

Great post. I swear I was just thinking about recruiting & how the local uncommitted talent would look @ June Jones.

I think you answered it pretty well

his top 3 players came from "the jailhouse" plus he has spoken very harshly about SMU's admission policies in reference to Bennett during his 0-11 year. Didn't even consider the UCLA and angrily denied interest at a school where he could probably easily continue his Polynesian pipeline-I'm not even convinced that he's interested-if he is it is to get a raise.

June Jones has 50,000 reasons to stay at Hawaii until after their bowl game. I would assume he would forfeit that money if he left before the bowl game was played, perhaps the rest of his bonuses for this year as well.

Jones's contract runs out on June 30, 2008 and has a $400,008 buyout if his contract is terminated before that, not really a substantial sum in the coaching world.

Here's his contract for those that are interested:

We all understand that anyone who comes here is doing it primarily for the money. That is our greatest asset at this point.
