If this is confirmed then Biggin had to pull this "surprising" revelation from someone. Let's see. He would fit in perfectly with SMU's former failed Coaching searches since 1989.
The point I was making is that papawasamustang said he heard about Tenuta on the radio Friday. (See thread titled John Tenuta below.) That hardly makes biggin's announceemnt a "scoop". He merely repeats info that is old that he classifies as being inside info privy only to the "Supreme Leader". And predicting that SMU will have trouble hiring a big name coach is not a real stretch. At least you back up all of your claims and even your opinions with facts and sources. Biggin just repeats info and takes credit for it. That is why I respect and even admire your opinion but can not respect his.
Why the hatred myrdel?
There is no hatred. Just no respect for your lack of evidence to back up anything you say, and your constant repeating of old news and claiming it to be a scoop by you. You yourself stated you do not read other posts. Maybe if you did you would learn that some others know just as much as you, and then you could contribute in a constructive way with the information you do know.
Me, I know nothing, do not claim to know anything, and am looking forward to learning who we will name as coach.
Again, no hatred. I love everybody.

Compared to Barnett 60 days ago or Fran 30 days ago it is indeed a bad hire.
That is the standard by which Orsini should now be judged.

Of course, if waiting until after a bowl game to hire an interim coach is a valid excuse then it could also be used as an excuse for not hiring Fran because we had to wait until after the Alamo Bowl when members of Fran's staff had to complete their coaching. I can see possibly having to wait for a head coach to complete his season but it really hurts if we are waiitng for an interim coach to finish his term. If we are going after Tenuta, why did we skip on Gailey if he was interested? I know most people hate Gailey but at least he was Tenuta's boss.

If we waited until after a bowl game to hire Tenuta who met none of the original coaching criteria, then Orsini has failed to get a candidate that met the criteria. Tenuta is probably one of the four best Coordinator prospects out there, but in my view just another Phil Bennett without the mustache. Georgia Tech apparently wanted him to stay, so he's definitely a good coach, but doesn't have anything in his resume to suggest that he is the guy to turn this program around.

It will be Gailey before Tenuta.

If Tenuta is hired as the new SMU coach, get ready to lose about half of the last remaining 2000 or so SMU fans.

I don't see Tunuta as a bad hire, just not a "wow" hire. The fact that he's never been a head coach makes me think he's not really on Orsini's list.
Agree. Delay = Jones.

Didn't someone report that LSU wants Tenuta as defensive coordinator? The man can coach. Head coach? I don't know - I'd like him better than some of the other candidates floated out there. Imagine what we could do in Conference USA with a defense, since nobody else has one.

Good point MRydel about Fran's assistants. Had not thought about the assistant coaching scenarios.

This is from Wikepedia, sounds like Tenuta is a hot commodity, I personally never heard of him until I read this board.
Jon Tenuta is the Georgia Tech Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. In the wake of the November 26, 2007 firing of Georgia Tech head coach Chan Gailey, Tenuta has been named Interim Head Coach. He also coaches the Yellow Jackets' defensive backs.[2] Tenuta is one of the highest paid coordinators in college football.[1]
Employment rumors
According to the several sources including the Detroit News, Jon Tenuta was believed to be a candidate, among many, for the head coaching job at Michigan State. [3] Michigan State University eventually hired former Cincinnati head coach Mark Dantonio.[citation needed]
According to several sources on ESPN News and ESPN College Gameday, Jon Tenuta was rumored to be joining current LSU head coach Les Miles as the defensive coordinator at the University of Michigan. However, Les Miles has since signed an extension with LSU, leading to rumors that Tenuta will now join Miles at LSU to replace Bo Pelini, who has been named head coach for the University of Nebraska, yet Pelini will coach the LSU defense in the BCS National Championship. Rumors were circulating that Tenuta may join Steve Spurrier at USC, to replace former defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix (who left for Ole Miss), but South Carolina decided to hire someone else for the job.[4]

Bingo...Tenuta = Orsini failed and the mantra continues..."What can go wrong with SMU football, will go wrong!"

Wait a minute...I thought we were interviewing Tenuta a second time and the only thing holding up hiring him was his bowl game? C'mon I was really starting to get into this inside bulletproof information.

Had never heard of Tenuta until his name appeared on this board. While that may speak to my relative lack of knowledge re: college football, I had assumed that the "wow" factor meant "Wow, we got him?" not "Wow, who's he?"

Jon Tenuta may be a pretty good football coach but as I remember him when he was at S.M.U. he had the personality of a stump. If Orsini hired him it would be a huge disappointment.
