The good news of course is that SMU had a player in the top five. Even if he did play over half a century ago.

Where is Andre Ware???? Set 26 records!!!!

"Upon leaving Dickinson High School, Andre Ware played at the University of Houston, where he was the first black quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy in 1989, along with the Davey O'Brien Award, the latter award given to the most outstanding college quarterback of the year. That year, his junior year, he threw for 4,699 yards, 46 touchdowns, and set 26 NCAA records. Many of the records were thanks to the innovative use of the Run & Shoot offense, which his successor at quarterback, David Klingler also used to great effect. The Cougars ended the season ranked the #14 team in nation by the AP. He then declared for the NFL Draft, foregoing his senior year."

I know this is herasy, but Baugh is the best football player ever to play the game. He was the complete package: runner, passer, great DB and punter and place kicker.

Jim Brown played defense at Syracuse but either didn't play it very well or saved himself for carrying the ball.

I would have been hard pressed not to have Jim Thorpe in the top 2 and I personally would have had him #1.

I hate these "best ever" type things that overinflate recent accomplishments.

Vince Young isn't among the top 10 QBs to ever play the game - let alone the top 10 players ever...

I agree Dan Freiberger should be #1 - but I bet he isn't.
