Hell no, you can bet he is working on recruiting. And he basically has his class and knows who he wants. Meanwhile, SMU is interviewing or even waiting to interview guys who have no recruiting base in Texas. No hurry right? Everything is fine right? Bullcrap. I'll say this. IF, I say, IF Jones turns us down, there is no way anyone can deny that this will have been a botched search. And if Orsini has the autonomy that some think, his job performance should be in serious question at that point. All you polyannas need to wake up.

I hate to admit it but I now agree. I put my trust in Orsini during the wait thinking he had a solid commitment from a coach with a bowl game left to play but can't believe we are just now making an offer to June without at least having a solid verbal committment in place (even if it were through Steinberg out of respect for the Hawaii players before their big game.), [b]

Although we have a horrible record over the past 20 years we shouldn't have to wait until a guy plays his bowl game to discuss the job. Either you want to get paid $1,700,000+ with the challenge of turning the SMU program around or you don't.

The obstacle and pay don't change regardless of whether the candidate wins/loses his bowl game. Paul Johnson and June Jones should have both been told to F off if they were requiring us to wait until their season/bowl ended.

Judging people by their record in the second year of a rebuild is pretty absurd whether talking about Gill, or Doherty or Tubbs. Make sense?

SMU can't afford to hire someone young in terms of coaching this time around. We've done that(ie.successful small school coach by the name of MIKE CAVAN, up and coming Def. Coor. by the name of PHIL BENNETT, DO THOSE NAMES RING A BELL). Risk needs to be as limited as possible with this hire. I say Fran at this point and it should have been done months ago.
