Reggie Bush paid $300,000 at USC

This is the forum for talk about SMU Football

if this is true and USC got busted, they would need to get caught doing it two more times over the next five years before you can compare any of this to SMU. SMU did not get the DP for paying players, they got it for ggetting caught 3 times and never doing anything about it. They basically ignored the NCAA

The title of the thread is a bit misleading...to the casual observer, it could mean that $300000 = how much Bush paid for his USC tuition.

The trophy should not be awarded to someone else after the fact since voting is done based on the regular season. Had Bush not been in the running, it is highly likely that Leinart would have won the trophy.

You cant just subtract Reggie and assume all votes roll to #2, particularly when #3 was on the same team as #1.

In 2001 USC committed several major infractions and received two years probation starting in 2002. If as this article asserts, Bush was paid in 2004, then USC failed to exert institutional control while on probation. That makes USC death penalty eligible. They won't get it, instead the NCAA will beat the University of North Dakota for being named the Fighting Sioux. But just wanted to tell you that USC was warned and still committed violations, so they are wandering into the SMU zone and they are a private school like SMU which makes them even more subject to censure.

actually, that is what is done in situations like this...if a player is ineligible, then he forfeits everything he gained. the Downtown Athletic Club can decide to make the award vacant if they really want to but i doubt it will happen.

if bush is stripped of his lil stiff armer, then itll go to vince. just look at situations during the olympics where athletes cheat, their medals dont stay vacant, they go to the next one in line

and lets be honest, VY deserved that award. he showed us all why in the RB

Some of you guys kill me.

Why is this shocking?

We should quit walking around thrashing ourselves about our "DP"- EVERYONE CHEATS.

From all the decades since (at least) the 50's, at some level & in some form or fashion or at some time or another, whether it be grades, money, jobs, guns, sex, etc... virtually every school who won for multi-years in a row cheated in some form or fashion.

The ONLY thing that pi$$es me off about it is how apologetic we are about getting caught!

BUT, it's okay:
never again will there be a DP sentence- the ncaa learned a lesson when they crippled SMU.

Not being apologetic is what really got us in trouble to begin with. We made no changes to address previous transgressions. That led us down the lack of institutional control path.
