I actually got two.

Both emails said he would respond to all of my points when he had more time, but I have not heard a word since then.

The first one he accused me of not being a college graduate because he thought I believed that SMU should not be subject to public criticism--which I never said. I simply explained that I thought he had made a poor choice of venue which makes the school look bad and that was probably not helpful to his cause or his job security.

Granted, I was not very nice in my first email, and I not only suggested that he wander over to Cox and sit in on some economics lectures, but I also suggested that he get his PhD and actually get qualified to teach at a university if he wanted to earn the salary he thought he deserved.

After I replied (with some more civility) and explained that I have not just one, but two degrees from SMU, an M.D., and a masters from Johns Hopkins, he backed off a bit and told me some of my points have merit and that he would re-read my initial email more closely.

He realized that his self-perceived academic superiority failed him and is hiding in the dark recesses of his office.

Well I'm glad someone got a response from him. Congrats on dismantling his feeling of academic elitism.

Just remember that without the militant faculty, we could be as good an institution of higher learning as UNT!

I am taking a weekend course taught by a department head at SMU. We talked about JJ, salaries etc. He said that faculty salaries really do need adjusting. In his next breath said, but alot of current faculty don't deserve the salary they currently get..."chicken vs. egg". He was speaking specifically of Dedman. He personally feels a good number need to be pushed out. I think he was thinking in terms of the "old guard". He excluded law and business, and felt both quality and salaries might be there, but of Dedman. He understood JJ's salary and how is was funded, is not football fan, nor a critic.
