Hey me@smu - if you go to SMU or went to SMU - whenever you use the phrase "came to my team's defense" you should be referring to SMU - not someone else. If you are from Florida great - I assume you graduated from hs - in which case it is time to REALLY graduate and leave all that behind you and be true to your actual university. You are allowed to have a second school - but there should be only one favorite team - and that is your university. The exception would be grad school - I can see having your undergrad school as the favorite - even if you go on to another grad school.

THE POINT I WANTED TO MAKE WAS THE MIAMI PROGRAM, AT A SCHOOL VERY SIMILAR TO SMU, IS SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE EVERY BODY FROM THE PRESIDENT ON DOWN TAKES PART IN THE RECRUITING EFFORT. THIS INCLUDES MEETING WITH RECRUITS AND THEIR FAMILIES AND LETTING THEM KNOW THAT THE ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY SUPPORT THE PROGRAM. THIS INCLUDES FORMER PLAYERS, NOW IN THE NFL, ON THE SIDELINES DURING THEIR BYE WEEK. THEY HAVE CREATED THE 'MIAMI U FAMILY" AND WE NEED TO LOOK AT WHAT THEY HAVE DONE. THEIR MODEL WORKS FOR A PRIVATE UNIVERSITY. FIVE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IS PROOF!

I THINK THEY GOT THE POINT NOW WITH ALL THE CAPS!

Gostangs - I have already stated in this thread and multiple times before my split loyalties. But I truly appreciate the lesson on having one favorite school. Never mind that this discussion has never been about SMU versus Miami so the distinction of which is favorite has never been made.

Finally, I grew up following Miami and being obsessed with the team. However, when choosing schools, I found that SMU was a better fit for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees, so I have split loyalties. Maybe I am just not as willing to give up multiple decades of loyalty at the drop of the hat.

PerunaPower - This is rather silly since once again, I am thrilled to have Odiari here. However, in 2006, the same year that Odiari was an BXII All-Academic player, Miami had 8...most in the ACC

should be nothing split about your loyalties. You need to grow up and get over your kiddie team and support YOUR university first.

You know nothing about Odiari, and you for sure don't know the specifics of his past. Your speculations can only hurt and not help. Let him move forward with a clean slate and support.
Leave SMU and Odiari out of this discussion.
I'm right there with ya!

Thanks for telling us about Miami. We've discussed them for over 5 years as a private school program that gets it. We've also discussed in no order, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Rice, USC, Duke, Stanford, ND, Tulsa and Tulane.

THEY HAVE CREATED THE 'MIAMI U FAMILY"

Their family is kind of like of like the Gambinos or the Corleones.
