If you don't have local ties and can recruit, you can still recruit, it just takes time to build the relationships.
I you have local ties and can recruit but can't coach, it really isn't going to matter either way, but your ability to recruit is going to be limited because you have nothing to sell kids on.
Best point of the day. I feel humbled.

As I recall, it worked out to 18-52. How's that for a Hot Sports Fact?

Well, god forbid we don't kiss the rears of the collection of under skilled football head coaches throughout Texas. Very few are innovators and have no input on where the kids go. Most of the kids realize that the guys that taught them pee wee football were better coaches than the really lousy history teachers who also happen to coach football in High School. There are exceptions but those exceptions become college coaches.

Does anyone really believe that if a Pete Carroll, Joe Paterno, or Jim Tressell called one of these 'Texas' coaches that the caller would not have the complete attention of the coach? I suspect the local coach would do everything he could to assist them even though it may be the first time they have ever had a conversation. The 'good ol' boy' network is good but doesn't always work for the benefit of the student-athlete.
Good coaches and good recruiters are much more important than relationships with high school coaches.

My humble opinion::
We have had coaches with Texas ties and we were terrible. Maybe having some coaches who every HS coach in the state doesn't have an opinion on will help us.
I would rather be an unknown quantity than a known bag of otter excrement.

Come to think of it, otter excrement isn't that flattering a description, either!

Phil and Jerry Bennett were about as wired in as you could be in North Texas and they did about as well in five years as Jones did in 3 weeks. I am sure that Jones can sell himself and SMU to recruits.

Best rebuttal to the HSO yet.
Hey, here's another idea...why don't we hire a bball coach from one of the state champion schools right here in Dallas...get all the DISD coaches behind him and we've got it made!
While we're at it...burgers & cheer...right or wrong? How can one lose ones redshirt anyway? How about blue eyed women's golfers? Do we have a defensive coordinator? PB: used car salesman or good guy? How bout those Blvd prices? Students at football games...Disgruntled maestros de espanol...What am I leaving out?

what we really need is a new thread to thoroughly define and identify otter excrement in our society. there is no doubt it is pervasive.

I think the fact that Stallion posted this is clouding people’s objectivity.
Seems like EVERYONE was excited last month about Greg McMackin's potential hiring because of his recruiting ability within Texas; I know I was.
