That will always be among my favorites as well. So much fun. Why don't they do that anymore?

I would say but I'm sure I'll get flamed by some band alum.

My favorite time is when the band used to play during the second and third quarters.

That sounds like the old SMU way of thinking, but if we combine Western knowledge with Japanese spirit all is possible.

Honestly, I don't think most of them can play it that fast and play it cleanly. Besides, the leadership of the band seems to shy away from things like that. Kind of like when they don't play after the snap, etc. Yes, I know it's an NCAA rule but there is a thing called testing the limit. Something that this university is quite familiar with when it comes to the NCAA.. Anyway, I'm sure I'll get some little nastygram now.

I know the band directors read this message board, so here is an idea for Don and Tommy. Since you can not play until the ball is in motion, why not play peruna, then after the play, drop to the drum cadence on the rims, then when the ball is snapped, bring up Peruna. I think this would be legal since the "band" is not playing.

It will take a little practice to get everybody to start back in together, but it could work.
Just send 'da money.

Can you play after the ball is in motion? I haven't seen a band do that in a long time...ANY band.

Last time this discussion came up on this board we deceided the rule is written such that you cannot play where it interferes with players hearing during the snap, but you can play while the ball is in motion after the snap. I know in the early 2000s on rare occasions we played before the snap, got quiet for the snap, then played again after the snap, and had no problems that I know of.

Yes, that is correct. My point is why not see what you can do? The team needs any kind of pick me up and if the band can provide that without compromising the rules, then why not? At worst, the band would get a warning before any kind of penalty would be issued. I seem to recall that Baylor essentially thumbed their noses at this rule when they were here a few years ago.

hell, play all the time when the visiting team has the ball...we need something that can give us some sort of homefield edge when 10% of our stadium has people in it...

I was just about to bring up Baylor. They played pretty much whenever they wanted. If I am right about the wording of the rule (someone on here can look it up much faster than I can), if they weren't preventing the snap from being heard, they weren't even violating the rules. (although that's subjective)

The rule says something to the effect of not preventing a team from hearing its signals. I would think that this would include the time between the breaking of the huddle and the snap of the ball.
