Talk about Memphis going to the Big East

Mountain West has very little on Conference USA.

I always found it odd that TCU left a conference with SMU, RICE, TULANE and TULSA considering they have such a deep inferiority complex when it comes to their third rate academic standing.

Interestingly enough, the Mountain West may expand with Boise State. This makes sense since I think TCU and Boise State are about equals ((BSU being a bargain since its a community commuter state school and TCU an overpriced third rate private school with only a local cowtown presence and a bunch of arrogant hick fans dressed in purple)) .

For all the talk about CUSA vs MWC, it's the WAC that has produced TWO teams that made it to BCS games.

I agree with those who say Memphis has a nice situation in CUSA. For all the talk about how weak the rest of CUSA was and how we would drag their RPI down, it didn't exactly hold them back last year, did it?

Its actually quite startling how much better the MWC has been than CUSA over the last couple of years in Football. CUSA needs to pick it up in talent acquisition. Right now its just a cute little conference where a lot of mediocre to bad teams fight it out for the claim to be the best of the mediocre. Luckily CUSA has a better TV package and Bowl Package-MWC is the far superior football leaque.

I find it funny how Boise State's President has been so vocal about his interest in joining the Mountain West Conference while BYU's President has been so publicly vocal about how the WAC has it better than the Mountain West. BYU has probably the best MWC football team, so it surprised me that their leader has so publicly bashed their conference. His biggest complaint is their horrible TV deal...and the mtn network's lack of availability to BYU fans (even those in Utah) is a big problem for them.

If the MWC ever decided to expand beyond the 9 teams it has, ten makes no sense. It would probably want to go to 12. If that happens, TCU will be in the red-eyed step child division. BYU, Utah, AF, CSU, Wyoming are tied at the hip. They'll open up their division to one team and it won't be TCU. That would mean that TCU would go from one home game every other year with BYU and AF to every four years. Big $$$$ loss there with a huge buyout to leave.

I think its fair- and bet most of us can agree, that SMU was and is happy with their move from the WAC to CUSA


and TCU is happy with their move from CUSA to the MWC.

We still get to play each other every year, its all good

Look - Can't say that CUSA is better then MWC - certainly for the last couple of yrs that is not the case. That does not mean the TCU move was good for the frogs if you ask me (and nobody has by the way).

MWC has even less exposure then CUSA - and thats tough to pull off. TCU would dominate the CUSA (until now of course) - and that is not the case in the MWC (exhibit A - this past season) - and traveling to away games is virtually impossible - which means you get yawner games at home. Our games have been yawners also - but a better team would have a shot at pulling better attendnece vs Houston Tulsa etc.... vs mountain people who dont travel and dont live in the Dallas area apparently.

Not saying CUSA solves much of that - but it was better for travel (both yours and your opponants) and a conference TCU could win more easily then MWC. You could say you are better off having your up yrs in a better conference - but not sure in the non BCS that really matters - The only way a non-BCS gets any oxygen is to go undefeated - and CUSA is better for that. Our decision to leave the WAC was a no brainer since it the WAC had all the drawbacks of the MWC without the better teams (except for Hawaii) - TCU's decision has not really done much for them.

Froggy High wouldn't want to come back, with that whole "we're better than you" crap they believe. Fine — I don't want them back. Let them enjoy their games on Versus against such realistic rivals as Wyoming and San Diego State. Screw 'em.

Let them go where-ever they like, and let TCU take their place in C-USA (not that I'm sure they would want to). Maybe UNT, I would just like to see more derby matches.

I don't think TCU moving back to CUSA is in the cards. I'm not sure trading road trips to San Diego, Vegas, and Colorado Springs for ones to Hattisburg, Greenville, and El Paso is a real winner.

But of course I don't see Memphis going anywhere either.. so moot point.

Boy, I'll bet road trips to Ft. Frickin' Worth are really coveted by Mountain West teams.

I am amazed sometimes at the inferiority complex of some SMU fans, who actually believe that the reason that we moved conferences had something to do with them coming into the conference.

Had a lot more to do with losing Cincy + Louisville than gaining you guys. Since the Big East raid and we left, not one CUSA team has been in the top 25, not one.

Most of the teams that left were the ones committed to big time college football. Now I admit that with this hire SMU is trying to commit itself, but 3 years ago, look at the win/loss record and attendance records of all the teams currently in CUSA, the ones now with the Big East, and the MWC. The move really was a no- brainer.

I dont buy into the "they left because we came in" thing...it just does not ring true - not sure how anyone could seriously believe that. And I would say at the moment MWC is a better conference with more teams committed to football. But aligning with big state schools nobody cares about does not really help you. Problem is - the schools are in the wrong locations - nobody cares about them or lives near them.

I just think the move did nothing for TCU except increase your travel cost, make it harder to get a decent bowl, and lower your exposure. We have a much better shot of building ourselves into a winner without TCU in CUSA - so its fine with me, but I think the boasting about the MWC from the froggies is humorous since they got nothing out of it. Certainly your attendence is not helped by the conference. Its not like Colorado State travels a ton of people - even BYU is a yawner game. I would say attendence is a neutral consideration when thinking about the two conferences.
