Re: Jones beats the odds again
Yes, I imagine double-or-nothing would tend to add up after five years....
Where/how would I go about throwing down a C-note that we go to a bowl game? Shady booky in Vegas somewhere, or is it something I could do online?
We've never lost the tailgate.
Guys, this talk about the Big 12 is really stupid. We shouldn't even be thinking about things like that. If things went BEYOND perfect and I mean SMU goes 9-3 this year and goes on to win C-USA four straight years making mince meat out of everyone we play, we wouldn't be mentioned to join the Big 12. Besides, as other posters have alluded to, the Big 12 already has an enormous presence in Dallas and doesn't need SMU to have a foothold here. Bottom line, if we're talking about being good enough to join a BCS conference, our most likely mate is the SEC. However, they already have a private school doormat in Vanderbilt and really don't need another. But I gotta admit, how badass would it be to see SMU playing Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, etc. ? Seriously that would be beyond awesome. Too bad its not going to happen.
Back off Warchild seriously.
There is no way we lose to Navy. A triple option team with a new coach and no defense. JJ will pick them apart and they don't have tyhe horsesw to hang with the score we will lay on them.
I also have us beating Houston and TCU. We're Bowl Bound in JJ's first year. Only losses to Tech, Tulsa, Memphis and UTEP.
The beautiful thing about this schedule is that the only, truly automatic loss is Tech. Other than that anything is possible. This is not to say that we'll win more than 5 or 6, but we'll definitely have an opportunity to compete, week in and week out. Of course, it was the same situation last year and we were only able to sneak by UNT.
I think most will agree that JW's senior year will be interesting. Sanders and Co. should have adjusted to the R&S and the defense will have several Juco additions, along with a fairly talented, veteran secondary. That's the team that really has a chance to win 9 games.
I like the optimism, I don't think it's fair to call this season and the last "the same situation," except speaking purely in terms of number of wins and losses. I'm excited about everything being completely DIFFERENT from last season. A loss is a loss and a win is a win, but now they'll have different impacts on the fans, players and community than that same win or loss would have had last year. We've never lost the tailgate.
