Gray shirt??????
That's my guess
I don't think grey shirts would be on the roster because they are not currently enrolled at SMU.

BTW this Jay Angotti kid did make the two deep roster for just about every game of his redshirt freshman season at Washington for a PAC10 team so he doesn't appear to be your usual spare. Started out at FS then spent most of the season at SS.

From last years Washington Spring preview:
"We have a couple of walk-on kids that should help us out," he said. "Jay Angiotti, who is from Hawaii and was a freshman last year, we brought him in at corner but he's really a safety, so he'll get a lot of quality reps. And Desmond Davis, he'll get a lot of reps and he's looking

Did he get actual game playing time? Is he eligible this year?

As I was flipping through the roster it showed some guy who transferred and had to sit out last year after walking on at Tech before that, so it looks like he'll likely sit a year.

based on some general internet comments and sites it APPEARS that since he was on the roster and actually played the NCAA transfer rule applies and he will have to sit out. I saw one comment that the NCAA was considering amending the rule.

I asked this question about a walk on that showed up at one school for just a short while and then switched and someone with knowledge (I do not remember who) said regardless of walkon status, if they enroll and walk on, they are just the same as scholarship. I do no think that is fair but apparently it is the "law".

Myrdal, thanks for your explanation. I was aware of the general scheme of a range of numbers for certain positions, but it still does not explain the duplication. In the case of the WR @16 Thomas he was redshirted last year and at the end of spring was listed as 2nd to Sanders. He will likely see time and be in the game at the same time Willis is in. The offense/defense explanation does not hold for the #14s as they are both Quarterbacks and although one is a freshman I don't believe JJ has decide who will redshirt yet. So it remains a mystery to me.

If what you say is true, and I have no reason to doubt you, then apparently the equipment manager has a number problem. Last year we had duplications, but always offense vs. defense or in a couple of cases, red shirts vs. active.
