Yes, Copeland wanted someone of his own ilk- i.e.Cavan. Rossley struggled mightily to recruit[but who hasn't] and while I liked him for the most part some of the things he did offensively left me baffled. Particularly like leaving Flanigan alone in the shot gun[on many occasions] that left the poor guy about a split second to get his throw off before having to literally run for his life.

If that is really how you feel, it might be in your best interest to avoid watching SMU games this season.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Yes please by all means do not attend the Texas Tech game in Lubbock where you will see 4 different outstanding Texas Tech DEs in a sprint relay race to tattoo the SMU QB in under 4 seconds.

Outstanding DEs? I think that is hyperbole. They have no DL on the Preseason All Big 12 team, also they had no DL higher than Honorable mention last year, Rajon Henley who plays DT, Colby Whitlock who plays DT, and finally the one DE Brandon Willams. So who are these 4 different "outstanding" DE's?

You'll find out in Lubbock. Meanwhile remember where you heard it first

Why be so cryptic? What you're saying is like saying "the games in late August/early September will be HOT. Very HOT."
DEs pinning their ears back and our QB running for his life is nothing out of the ordinary.
When that ceases to be the case, someone let me know.

And that only happened because BLM bobbled the snap and had his back to the line by the time he got it under control...which was way to long to hold off the defense.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Back to Rossley (this thread IS about Rossley, isn't it?), he did many good things at SMU, and obviously better recruiting than his successors. IMHO, it was the Missouri game in 1996 that did him in. SMU had beaten Mizzou all game long except for one thing: Zero preparation and zero performance by special teams for that game. They were unbelievably inept. It was as if an executive decision was made during the week not to prepare. Missed extra points & field goals from point blank range, blocked PAT attempts run back for points, the difference in the game. I left the game sick to my stomach. Just one good PAT would have meant 6-5, and who knows, Rossley might still be here today.

I am not trying to brag about losses, but these things were all unimaginable in the last 7 yrs or so (witness Okie St, Aggies, TT). And Rossley had much worse rules to deal with than anybody after him.
Some of us haven't adopted the loser mentality which allows us to get happy because our team really scared a few superior opponents.

Instead you've adopted the pain in the arse fan mentality, which makes you believe that you are a coaching genius and choose the doom and gloom approach to any and all aspects of this team. That's much better.

And exactly what has avoiding the so-called "doom and gloom" approach done for you over the last 20 years? Because it's done nothing for the program.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Believe me, I want to win more than anyone. I just think we need to give Coach Jones a fair shot at fielding a team before we start calling for his head or demanding that he play it the way we want. If I don't see improvement by the end of the season and some great recruits, then I'll start getting that old sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Give it a chance!

JJ is the answer; not the problem. He needs time and players.
D line is woefully small and has been for a very long time. It's the heart of our D ineptitide.
Start Butler at RB. He is fast and quick.
