Hawaii seems to only opperate in complete reactive mode. See: JJ situation.

I was born and raised in Hawaii and went to college in Texas...believe me, the culture is VERY different. It also depends on where in Hawaii someone is coming from, as the environment someone is used to can be quite different depending on that. Some people adjust, some don't.

It probably doesn't help that the school that when freshmen show up for summer school or in August/September that it is so %$@# hot.

That is pretty disappointing if it's true. I know it may have been a bit of a culture shock, but the kid should have grown a pair and realized what a great opportunity he had. Good luck to him wherever he ends up.
