Why Do You Hate Rice?

I don't hate Rice on every other night but the night before game day and the ensuing 24 hours. SO I guess that's now. I hate Rice because we haven't beat them at their place since the 'rebirth' (trying to avoid using the standard name for the two year hiatus we had from football). Really, though that's kind of more pathetic then hate-able, but what the heck?

True. I actually pull for the little Owls any other time because their situation so much mirrors ours as the little private school trying to make a blip on the radar.

I probably rooted for Rice to win their baseball championship a couple of years ago more than any non-SMU team in recent memory …that was until Memphis last year in basketball.

I hate Rice because I am p!ssed that I have to hate Rice. It used to be that Rice was an after thought - kind of like the little kid brother that pesters you, but you just ignore.

Now they have become a rival and we have to circle this game on the calendar with a red marker. Last time we beat those guys in Houston, I was an 18 year old SMU freshman, attending my first SMU game (it was the season opener). I got to watch Bobby Watters complete his first 11 passes on the way to a 45-3 victory.

I hate Rice because I used to hate the Longhorns, the Aggies, the Bears, the Raiders. I can't hate them now because they have moved out of town and we have fallen so far.

So I don't hate Rice because they are Rice - I hate them because I have been forced to hate them. Thanks Ken Pye - you got your wish you ba$tard!!
