I like your idea.
Also, why not groom him for a change of pace rb.
We know he can run & Martin is a power back.
We don't seem to have or be using a speed back.
Change up would be nice.

Justin is fast for a qb...he could never be a change of pace RB. He is elusive and slippery when running around the pocket holding the ball like a loaf of bread scanning the field for a possible reciever....but it is extremley different making people miss and evading tacklers when taking a handoff or pitch and you have to avoid linebackers who are just as fast as you...not 300 lb DL. I like the idea of willis coming in and taking some snaps at QB running QB sweeps or option plays with Martin/Mckinney and exentually developing an option pass play after lulling the D to sleep by thinking it is a run play just because 16 is lines up at QB. J will has a better chance of being a slot reciever than a QB

But what makes no sense to me is that Justin Willis who holds some sort of record for passing touchdowns at smu is on the bench. Even if he doesn't have the arm that mitchell does, it's decent, and he does have a much better play making ability. With him in it seems that most defense's would have a more difficult time defending smu because of his running ability.

Quick answer is Willis is a great player, but it's a question of fit to the new system.

I think Willis needs to be on the field in some capacity.
He is one of our best players & he probably could play a couple of different positions.
As far as RB, I was saying we need a change of pace speed guy to compliment Martin. Isn't the draw play what Willis does best?
Don't really care who it is just that we need some speed in the backfield.

I know that Mitchell ran the same style offense in high school but his stats weren't that impressive. But I really don't think the system has much to do with it as it does as he threatened to transfer, and was suspended.

But for putting him as a rb, would be the same as a reciever. As a rb he isn't the best tackle breaker, so if he got the ball defenses would swarm to him, which is why him as a qb with the option to pass or run makes him better. Now as a wide reciever maybe some screen plays, or some reverses but having to learn routes, would be hard seeing that he doesn't have the speed of a reciever.

But if the mustangs continue to struggle hopefully we will see willis getting his fair of snaps in a game. As I believe he is a better qb than Mitchell right now.
