Channel 11 just had a live report from the stadium, camera and reporter in the crowd, they did a couple of interviews and showed the stadium and scoreboard.
Was actually suprised at the crowd, seemed to be more there than I had been made to believe. Looked about the same as our crowd when we played ECU about 3 years ago ![]() Womack + Wishbone = Heisman
Class of 89
Sounds like one of last year's SMU games. ![]()
Last quarter and a half yeah, fun game especially for free. AFA brought their band was well as the peregrine falcons, which was cool. Incredibly CSC were still tools even though there were maybe 5k people there, with no tickets.
was there from the second quarter on. Houston had a hard time stopping their triple option attack from most of the game until the fourth quarter, but air force was mainly trying to run out the clock. The switch to zone allowed houston to get some key scores at the end of the third and in the fourth quarter. Air force did a good job pressing receivers and getting pressure on case keenum. Keys from us against houston especially on defense is making keenum throw from the pocket and containing him. There were many times during the second half where he was able to escape from the pocket and complete key passes or break runs for first downs.
I went for the first half. There was a DMN reporter (Kate) doing a story on the motivation for coming to the game for those like me who didn't have an allegiance to either team. I told her one of the reasons I was there was for the bet I had on AF, but I don't think she'll quote me on that. The weather got pretty bad the last half of the first quarter with wind and rain that came in from the sides; not hard rain, just being blown around. After that the rain stopped and it was very pleasant for the second quarter, though the rain gave UH some problems.
UH had it rolling early. They were up 7-3 and driving, and had converted a third down around the AF 25 or so, but the guy fumbled. From there AF dominated the rest of the first half. I enjoyed being able to hear everything, from the players' calls to the coaches' F-bombs when guys screwed up. An entertaining game.
AF had some really big athletes across the board. I don't understand how AF gets that many good athletes to go to school there.
I sure hope we start getting classes with 90% plus D1 size/quality athletes to come here soon. It makes the games so much fun to watch. No offense to our team but after watching a game like that you get a true understanding of how far we have to go talent wise. Even UH had real D1 athletes.
About 2-3K in attendance. Only two kids running around on the berm behind the scoreboard.
![]() AFA executed very well on their run game and played a solid defense. The Coogs seemed out of it. Maybe they were distracted by the venue move and the flooding occurring back home with many of their family members.
I went into the game about the middle of the 3rd quarter. UH was behind 31-7, but came back to make it a game.
A couple of observations. Houston's players are very comparable to the players we have, size wise. A true indicator of where we stand talent wise will be evident when Houston comes to Ford in the middle of October. We played them close last year down there, and should have beaten them two years ago at home. The UH QB was able to scramble for some pretty big gains late in the game Saturday. Reminded me of the Rice QB. If we don't put a spy on him for our game he will rack up at least 100 yards on the ground. It was a little unusual sitting in the West stands and having people actually cheer. The crowd also stood up and yelled when the UH defense was trying to make a stand on a couple of series. They did that even without the PA announcer having to tell them.
How can this be? I call BS.
It's Cougar High. They've got S-P-I-R-I-T! Yes, they do! They've got S-P-I-R-I-T! How 'bout you? ![]()
