I still think June is the guy, but we are not improved. Don't even give stats, we suck.

You guys are amazing. Three games in, and suddenly Mitchell has gone from "really talented" to the wrong guy? Coach Mason has the talent he inherited, and because the guys who got lit up last year by North Texas don't look like the Steel Curtain, now Coach Mason is unqualified? Let the players learn for more than three games (and I remember virtually everyone here predicting we'd get thumped in Lubbock, and many said by a far larger margin than we actually did) and let the coaches coach - and recruit to their system - before writing anyone off, huh?
The final score stung, that's true, but a lot of us thought it would be worse, and for a half or more, a lot of guys actually played pretty well. Well enough? No. But there was a lot to like, actually, especially in the first half.
Once a Mustang, ALWAYS a Mustang!

I think BLM has talent..but let him learn, not throw him to the wolves.
We have a proven QB.

well, Jones inherited a 1-11 team and it remains to be seen whether they will be 1-11 again this season, but anyone with half a brain knew this roster returned most of the same guys who accomplished that 1-11 season plus a bunch of FR who has never played in a Division I game.
There's a reason Jones said he wasn't going to measure our "progress" this year in terms of wins and losses. This year is all about finding out who can play at this level. I'm sure that's why Bo Levi got the starting nod and why there are so many FR in the 2 deep.
I'm pretty sure I recall Jones having a 5 yr deal to turn this program around. It's clear to see his initial focus has been to build an offense, as evidenced by his recruiting of QBs, OL and receivers. We can only hope that by the time Jones is in his 5th season here, our 2 deep isn't full of FR. That will tell us that he's managed to find and develop guys who can (and hopefully will) be much more competitive at this level. Bennett built a 6-6 team in 5 years. I'm hopeful Jones will be there in 3 years, but must say I have very little in the way of "expectations" for this year's team. I remain "hopeful" they can find another opponent they can beat before the season is over, but right now I can't imagine who it might be

TCU-absolutely not
Tulane-very big long shot on the road based on 2008 results
Navy-hmm maybe-on the Road but I could see Sanders and Robinson having huge games. It would have to be a shootout
Houston-very slight possibility at home
Tulsa- No
Southern Miss-No
UTEP-fighting chance but not likely on the Road
Memphis-home game-maybe
UCF-very unlikely on the Road
I think we'll surprise somebody probably either Navy or late in the year

Pretty fair assessment based on what we've seen so far. I'd say Navy and Memphis will be our best shots. Tulane looks pretty stout after their showings against Bama and ECU. Haven't see enough of Houston or UTEP to get a feeling for those two.

Unless we witness a miracle SMU will not beat Houston. I watched them yesterday and they have some real athletes.
