i think at this point, we need to stick with mitchell. he was obviously rattled tonight with the bad throws, but the reps and game experience is what's going to make him better. we've just played the best team that will be on our schedule this year, and there were some positives to come out of it. so let's keep things in perspective, as we are still the youngest team in the nation. personally, i would liked to have seen willis be the starter this year, with the younger guys following later. however, since he is clearly not in the mix other than for 3rd and short situations, we need to use his athleticism somewhere else on the field, be it receiver or elsewhere.

Yes, he beat Texas St. but 8 interceptions against Rice and Tech? Give me a break....as I said all along he should have been red shirted, now he is ruined...

Revamp and start Willis....

Go Ponies!!!!!!!!!!!

Here we go again. Willis could not do any better.

How do you know.. I could say the only game we won was when Willis had some snaps at QB....I think Willis would have beat Rice and kept it much closer against Tech....but I don't know, because he didn't play...just like you don't know if he could not have done better

GO Ponies!!!!!!!!!

yes, he will. LT is not even close to a legit d-1 qb any time soon. and I think JJ would start serge elize at qb before he would start jwill. that is just not happening because that is a "no win" for jj.

I am long past thinking willis has any future here. the problem is our qb of the future is most likely not even in the program right now. jj needs to get a juco, and a good one, signed this december. or a dynamic freshman who you can really see a future in like Baylor has now.

You are correct JW does not have a future at SMU, that was apparent when he was made number number 3 qb. It now seems he is trying to convince Willis he is not a qb by playing him as a receiver.

I'm inclined to think you're right.

FWMustangGirl wrote:Scared to death to play the #12 ranked team in the nation? Worried that the fans would be calling for his head (again, just like the first 2 games) if he made any mistakes? General nerves or a bad night? Could be any number of things. We got outplayed tonight. I noticed that a couple of the interceptions seemed to go where there was no receiver. Maybe there was some miscommunication there. I won't put it all at BLM's feet.
Quit clouding the witch hunt by considering multiple possibilities! You keep doing that, and folks are going to write you off as one of those "realistic" types.

I sometimes forget this is the SMU board?

One of the only boards that gladly accepts having a unprepared freshman QB stuffed down their throats (during a self imposed throw away season) in hopes that he will suddenly develop arm strength and accuracy NEXT SEASON.

disclaimer: I know we don't have a high level of talent on our roster right now but that is no excuse for not putting the best we have on the field right now in our BEST effort to win games This season.

We as paying fans deserve to know that we are getting the best possible product on the field (the during the dates listed on our tickets and not next year) Win or Lose.

BLM has arm strength. When he misses a receiver, it is usually too deep by a step. Some of the misses last night were obviously miscommunications. It is possible that he threw where he expected the receiver to be in at least some of those instances, yet there was only a defender there. Why are you convinced it is only a QB problem, and not a receiver problem as well? How many perfect passes are going to be dropped this season? They are learning a new system. If you expected a bowl this year, well you shouldn't have.

You don't know that.

If Mitchell is Jones's guy, I've yet to discern what he sees in him. He's shown nothing remarkable in 3 games.

Maybe we can't know for sure since we can't go back and play the games again with Willis as the starter, but we can look to his two seasons as starter. In both of those seasons he was not able to pull out a win either at home or on the road against Tech or Rice.

Or we can look back and see games in which he threw 3 or 5 interceptions and make an equally apt comparison.

In my opinion, BLM played his worst game so far, but that was heavily influenced by playing against the best defense he has played against this year. I agree with those who say JWill would of had a better game, but I also know the outcome would have been the same. Tech would have won. The only way we could have beat Tech was for them to beat themselves. However, I would have liked to have seen Robinson catch the ball when it is between his hands and he has a touchdown. I would have liked to have seen the defense tackle for more than one quarter. I would have liked to have seen BLM check off on his reads better. He did miss open receivers and throw to covered receivers more than once. I would like to have seen the receivers and the QBs get on the same page so the ball is not 10 feet away from the receiver.

Having seen only BLM and Turner at QB this year, I would stay with BLM for two more games. We will again be out manned by TCU and if we win it will be because TCU beats itself. Our tackling, rushing, and pass defense is not going to improve enough. Our offense is not going to improve enough to beat a team that has much better talent. The following week we have Tulane whom we do match up with. If BLM has the kind of performance against Tulane that he did against Tech then I would change the starter.

As a final note on the Tech game, my significant other and myself would like to see the classless Mile Leach beneath the hoofs of Peruna!!!

Does fumbling 3 or 4 times count?

Not when debating who'd be the better QB in a passing offense.

A turnover is a turnover - they look the same in the box score.

Yes but outside of the box score you and I both know that Mitchell threw the ball to the other team 8 times in 2 games. And they were all poor passes. How many times did Willis ever do that?

Willis...Mitchell...does 49-9 (Willis 2007) really feel any different than 43-7 (Mitchell 2008)?

Tech was a better team this year than last, we beat most Vegas point spreads, we did less to embarrass ourselves on TV this year than last, our VERY young offensive line was a bright spot, our defense got through TT's 6'5"+/300+ lb giants and actually put pressure on Harrell. We knew this was coming and I saw more positives than negatives. That said, June needs to step up Bo's learning curve this week before TCU. Very quick/athletic DBs and DLs.
