I've got to say that TCU certainly did not "drop the hammer" on Stanford. The weather was bad, Pritchard was worse, Stanford continued to run the ball up the middle all day ignoring the fact that its receivers WAY outsized TCU's DBs, Stanford had a kick-off return to tie called back because of a step out of bounds late in the 4th, followed by a fumble, TCU tacked on some late points after failed comeback drives...and TCU special teams couldn't tackle a pre-schooler.

TCU's appeared faster than SMU but that's about it. They have very quick DBs, a good defensive front and a pitch and run offense (this might have been due to the weather) that clips away 4 yards at time. They ran a lot of quick hook routes which helped their smaller/faster receivers which will be a nightmare for us combined with the option. This game is winnable if we can properly tackle on the option and get athletic plays from our DBs. On offense the pass is going to have to establish the run...which rightfully lends to some trepidation.

Stanford QB looked awful! Harbough should have pulled him.

That's fine. I'm just giving you guys fair warning.

Don't get me wrong, I think we'll play better this week for these reasons:
1. It's the rival
2. The game is at home
3. Maybe (Probably not) they are looking to OU

I give us a 1 in 8 chance of winning. But that's about it.

And TCU looked faster than SMU? Hello! That's the game right there.

No we are be_atching right now.

The whining will probably start Saturday Night.

Since I'll be in Dallas I hope I can find the missing internet to whine (if required) as well!

Good for us. Gives us another shot at a ranked team . . .

i would not call the tech game a "shot" at a ranked team

The stats I posted in the other thread were meant to show that TCU will probably control the line of scrimmage on both offense and defense. As much as I hate to say it, and I do hope to Doak that I am wrong, but I think we will be in for a long night.

My deepest fear is that this will turn out to be a repeat of the 1993 game when Baylor beat us at Ownby and never attempted a pass the entire game (I think that was 1993).

You know a lot, so might be interested in corrections. Stanford's kick-off return for a TD didn't exist--it was a punt return, ruled stepping out of bounds on TCU's 13 yard line, after review in the official's box. They couldn't punch it in from there. They ran the ball 29 times, passed 21 times, with heavy rain falling.

I was at the game but I couldn't remember when it happened and tried going back through drive summaries to figure it out. The kickoff after a TCU field goal seemed to make the most sense. If it was a punt return, thanks for the correction. As for the pass/run totals, I guess you're disputing the "run all day" observation. Stanford did try passing on third downs and towards the end of the game but almost always threw to the TE over the top and Pritchard ended up throwing it over his head most of the time. I wish Stanford had tried throwing it high and wide to its receivers who appeared 2-3" taller than TCU's players and much bigger.

Baylor did actually attempt one pass in that game, but the 69 yard touchdown was called back because of an offsides penalty.

TCU's defensive backfield is loaded two deep at every position including one of the best players in this part of the Country SS Stephen Hodge. Stanford had 7 First Downs until the final drive under 2 minutes. They just might be better than Tech in the defensive backfield.
