Bump. Hopefully SID will see this thread.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

The one thing I don't get is when the PA guy is talking AND the band is playing simultaneously. Or when the band plays WHILE there's a message being played on the jumbotron.
I have no problem with our band playing while the other team's band is playing - by all means, drown them out - but when you've got the videoboard playing that "kareokecam" music (by the way, that's an idea that can be scrapped immediately) and the band is playing "Peruna" at the same time ... sounds awkward, at best.
I would think it wouldn't be that hard to either watch the board, or have a headset on someone in the band, so they can be told when it's time to play, and when it's time to keep it down.

PA guy's still horrible. Learn to pronounce DeMyron Martin's name, he's on the home team for godsake.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

When you get older you will not be able to hear like I am not able, and it will not matter.

Really? It worked in our section. I liked the presentation last night. Although I did find it silly that the cheerleaders were leading cheers to the 12 people (plus the band) in the student section at the beginning of the game. One thing that really seemed off was the timing of the team's return after the half. They came on the field to no fanfare at all. The band appeared to be getting settled back into their seats after performing. The announcer/PA music was delayed a minute or so after they were on the field. It just seemed strangely quiet.
I thought the same thing about the team being out too early as well. There must have been 3-4 minutes left on the halftime clock when they came out.

As far as I know, what you suggest is what was occurring at previous games. I would rather the band play non-stop and the PA guy never open his mouth. I'm biased though.
As for video boards. I've decided that they are useless at a college game and do nothing but destroy the atmosphere of college football. At most, play replays, and score updates, otherwise, let the bands have at it.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?
