He was intercepted twice. But who's counting?

I agree the defense was tired.

However, you do realize Houston had NO timeouts. Andrew McKinney was averaging about 5 yards per carry. Coach Jones was simply trying to run the clock out.

Had the 3rd down catch been made, we are probably talking about a different outcome. It was a great defensive play, and Houston made the play they had too. SMU didn't.

Did he say excuse me, and run towards a phone booth :?:

Seriously, did he say maybe I better go see what I can do :?:

Only 2 deep at a home game.......

Don't think so.

JJ version of the shoot utilizes a hybrid run game to surgically eat up clock, something not seen very often. The offense wont be fully operational until those plays are installed. He isn't running an arena or TTech-spread offense.

That's good.

I wouldn't want TT on my offense.

I don't understand why we didn't run McKinney up the middle when we had 2nd and 1 at the two. We ran two sweeps that went nowhere and had to settle for a field goal.

Agree 100%....BLM should have thrown 2 passes on that next to last drive, not 1.

With our D, Houston had PLENTY of time to score a measly FG, regardless of an extra TO.

wasnt one of the runs to the outside a designed qb keeper? strange, strange play call. maybe it was a broken play, but it was ugly.

When we got the ball and wanted to run out the clock their were 2 main goals to achieve. First you need to rid them of their time outs and second you must make a first down. Running the ball twice was fine. It accomplished what was needed and set up a short 3rd down. Had the 3rd down been executed properly, the game was over. It was not and thus the game did not end. That 3rd down play was one of about 8 or 10 that could have changed the game to our favor. These kids have not learned how to win yet and it is going to take something beyond hope and arm chair QBing to get us there.

We played 1/2 at Tulane, 3 Qtrs at UCF, about 55 minutes with Tulsa, and 59 1/2 with Houston. They are getting there. We just need some luck and about 30lbs per man more on the DL.

Nothing wrong with play calling on last series-as mrydel stated it wasn't executed. Really needed a catch to keep clock running on 3rd Down whether we got first down or not. Left too much time on the Clock. UH had no time out left-to let Mitchell sling it around and risk a turnover or more incompletions or clock stoppages would have been [deleted] stupid.

Jones stands by his call in his post game interview audio over at ponystampede. Jones sounds unbelievably frustrated, closest I've heard to him being pissed.

sling it around no. use short ball control passes like we did the rest of the game over the middle. i would rather have a power running game, but thats not jones style. when you change what you normally do to milk clock you usually lose. same thing on settling for that field goal by running sweeps. didnt throw it in the end zone once. I thought jones was more of a go for the jugular guy, but whatever.

On the 3rd and 4 pass to Wilkerson, was it dropped?

It looked to me like a drop but the defender could have knocked it out of his hands. I felt like he should have held it.
