Dooby you can sit in my seats for Southern Miss. 104, 6, first 4 on the aisle right in front of BUS. You can make all the noise you want. I'll be in Indiana.

That is me to a T. I thought there was something wrong with me. I think the loss two weeks prior really took it out of me.

The atmosphere was horrible -FOR HOMECOMING!!!!!!!!- I'm certain we lost any recruit that visited Saturday. We fall behind 14 points-and after 19 straight losses to D1A teams, the defense hasn't held anybody under 30 all year, Memphis is running the ball at will, your second string 5-11 QB comes in and it seemed like at no time did the SMU fans really get behind the team. They thought about it after Cunningham's tackle-but they just weren't into it. Its that "bottomed-out" feeling I was hoping SMU would avoid this year. Some momentum-any momentum-3-4 wins and you got it.
There were two things that contributed to the lack of emotion from the fans. First and most important was our first two possessions when we came out running and getting no where fast...that sort of quieted the troops. Then as the game progressed, we would all start yelling when we had Memphis in a third down situation and Memphis would line up then drop back and stare at their sideline for the play. By the time they actually ran the play our fans had run out of energy yelling. I got to where I wouldn't start the third down yelling until after Memphis finally had their play in, but by that time everyone else had grown tired of yelling. But then to top it off, they would make their first down which really took the wind out of the fan's sails.
Cunningham's tackle on the kick return really got the fans fired up and we all hoped it would get the defense fired up too, but alas it didn't and the fans sort of followed the teams lead on that.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

It's always impressive when you can hear the other team's fans chant their chant. Even the Memphis State fans managed to do that Saturday.
By the way, I thought the loudspeakers were not loud enough. Hard to hear the PA announcer.

Wait until the Southern Miss game - that's when you (and 600 others) will see "bottomed out".

PK: Well, lots of teams do that (SMU used to) and yeah, you can't start yelling until they get the play in or you wear yourself out. Maybe it can be sustained when there are 30k of you, but when it is the dozen of us, we just can't.
Stallion: I don't know what it is, but there is one game a year where there is just a weird vibe at Ford Stadium and the energy just gets sucked out of you. I remember it at the Tulane game after Katrina in '05. This game definitely had that vibe.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

There is a gentleman who brings his wife and two sons to every game in 207 who is always yelling and trying to get the crowd fired up, only to have the people who sit behind him tell him to sit down and be quiet.
If the loud and rowdies want to try and take over a section, let me know which one. I will gladly move my 4 seats over there so I can be a fan again.
That, sir, is me. Usually sit in 206 with BrianT and SMU96 and my kids. Had to sit in 207 for homecoming for space issues.
Wow! Never knew that.
Let's pack our stuff and head over to the loud and rowdy section next year.

And just as a point of interest. I find it more motivating to stand and cheer the defense on third down if they stop one once a game.
I had a blast Saturday!
O yes and Mustang Bill if I’m ever drunk enough again to ask you for a double high five again please indulge me, I promise not to make a habit out of it. Don’t make me move over to the other side.

1. Our group in rows 10-13 of section 103 is pretty loud. And yes, most of us are former Mustang Bandsmen/women.
2. I apologize for the crowd vibe this Saturday. It was all my fault. As a result of a cold, I lost my voice on Thursday, and still don't have it back completely. I have to say that sitting there unable to yell really makes the game less enjoyable. It was hard to get involved in the game without being able to encourage the players or lead the crowd on third downs. It's a much more boring game when all you are is a passive lump on the bench. Hopefully that will not happen again.
3. At UCF there was someone in front of us with a shirt that said "If you can't see, STAND UP!" Mustang marketing people take note: I will pay a lot of money for an SMU shirt that says this on the back.

We are in 205. Seventh row or so. The folks around us are pretty good fans, for the most part. They are prone to disappearing in the 3rd and 4th quarters, and that is my biggest complaint. My kids yell loudly at games, as do we. No one has ever told us to sit down or to be quiet.
