Johnson has to be in consideration for coach of the year...obviously it didn't take long for him to prove his "system" can compete with the big boys.

Should be interesting to see if he can build on what he accomplished this season.

The argument that "blue chip" athletes will not come to play for him in the future doesn't hold up either, because it apparently doesn't matter. Georgia has all the BLUE CHIPS and he beat their D like a rented mule.

you dont need blue chips to run an O like that. there are plenty of talented non blue chips out there with tons of heart that want to be stars when other schools blew them off.

PJ is a great evauluator of talent

Looks like he won the award, and has a good shot at building on it. I had no idea that Tech was so young this year, they have almost the entire team back next year. Oh, and the system that everyone said could never work against BCS teams led the ACC in total offense. Nice.

ATLANTA - Paul Johnson, whose first Georgia Tech team exceeded all expectations by winning nine regular season games, was named the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year Tuesday by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA).

Georgia Tech, ranked 15th in the BCS standings and 15th in the Associated Press poll, finished the regular season with a 9-3 record, remarkably better than every preseason projection. Sports Illustrated predicted Johnson’s first Yellow Jacket team would win just three games, and Tech was picked to finish fourth in the ACC’s Coastal Division. With a 5-3 record in ACC play, the Jackets tied Virginia Tech for the Coastal Division title.

and the option, more than any other offense, allows you to "do more with less." and god knows we needed that.

Many people think that the triple-option that PJ runs is a boring offense with a lot of short plays--3 yards and a cloud of dust type offense. I forget the stat that the broadcasters for the UGA-GT game provided that day, but that offense produces a lot of big yardage plays. Bottom line is that PJ is a winner and kudos to him for implementing that offense with such success so quickly.

I wonder if he had to change the "culture" at GT?

I also wonder how GT gets the athletes it does. From my understanding--and I may be wrong--GT doesn't offer any soft classes.
