Now, maybe we can't starting having a legitimate broadcast of SMU football.
Barry Switzer would be cool!

You're aiming your pistol at the wrong target, sargent. Craig Swann made listening to otherwise miserable football entertaining over the last several years.
Nothing wrong with having a fan in the booth - especially at the college level. Craig Way is a homer for the horns, those Aggie dudes say "we" and "us" all game long, and have you ever heard a Red Raider broadcast? Its just as professional as ours.
If you want something to [deleted] and moan about, let us know how the women's volleyball team is doing.
"It'd be nice to see Jesse Henderson break one here."

Craig Swann -- Addition by subtraction.
We are free from the bonds of hearing the pounding of the press box table in the background.
We are free from the continuous whining of blaming officials for every call that went against SMU, even when the Mustangs were guilty of it.
We are free from inaudible commentary.
We are free from him never understanding the concept of timing to where he constantly talked over Rich and so you could not follow what happened.
Look, you can be a homer or broadcast the game from the SMU perspective. (P.S. That's what Craig Way and Keith Moreland do). But you don't have to act like a nitwit on the air. Swann did.
It doesn't mean that I don't like him personally. Just thought he was awful.
But again, I hope he has a wonderful time with his family especially with third child on the way.

I have to agree to disagree. Swanny, while raw, was just plain fun to listen to, at least for me. He saw a lot of BAD football and still came back the next week with hope and enthusiasm. So he was a fan in the broadcast booth - who cares? He was paid to be a cheerleader and to be back country-ish. It worked for me.
Is Mitch Gleiber available?

Before the Southern Miss game The Ticket did a rundown of great Swann calls over the years ... it was great, he made the broadcast sound like it might have been live from the frat house when he celebrated those (rare) great moments with enthusiasm as only he can. Listening to games from afar on the Ticket, for me personally it was always nice hearing his constant jawing at the refs ("aww, that is just a TERRIBLE call," "WHAT are these guys LOOKING AT???" etc.) and it made the broadcasts enjoyable despite the always consistently bad play on the field. You have to have a sense of humor to be an SMU radio playcaller and Swann did a great job. He will be missed.

Supposedly Bob and Dan is having him on this afternoon at 1:55 on the ticket.
Patton- nitwit? Your opinion is your opinion on whether you like the broadcast or not, you either love him or hate him for obvious reasons. Say he was awful on the air- but nitwit? I know Swann and I will be glad to give you his home address if you want to stop in and call him that instead of hiding behind a screen name. And I guarantee you his intellegence levels is above yours, don't let the East Texas persona and twang fool you. Hard to call someone a nitwit that has given so much to the program on and off the field.

I understand he has been in the financial industry and is pretty savvy.
That's great. I'm glad he's successful and is making a great life for himself and his family. I wish health and happiness. I'm also glad he took advantage of his time to get his degree from SMU and has put it to work for him.
This is a message board where you can state your opinion. And I don't give a damn if I'm the only one who feels that way.
The more you guys push back and try the old torch and club routine on me, the more dug in I'm going to get about this. I don't have to follow the "You better like this guy or else" business.
Craig Swann was awful, and I won't miss him.

GSP, Jr has some valid points. If we had professionals in the broadcast booth, that would be one thing. But we don't. We have a weekend broadcaster in Swann. I have been listening to SMU football via the Net for years. I will miss the chemistry Craig and Rich had. Though I did learn that not all calls are pathetic.
That said, it will be interesting to see who replaces Swann in the booth. Wonder if Danny Don would be willing to do a guest slot every now and again? I think he has had some experience.

We will all be living a dream next year if we fire up the radio for the first game and hear:
"You're listening to SMU Mustangs Football. I'm Rich Phillips, along with my two new partners in the booth, Don Meredith and Craig James."
Think about the recruiting value that would add. JJ could go to a player's house and say "every game you play in will be broadcast on the radio by Don Meredith and Craig James."

Feel free to say whatever you want. We are in a country based on free speech (well, kinda, but I digress). Just realize that we are exercising our rights when we criticize you for having an opinion that sucks.

The first thing they'd say is...Don who?
