Is the head coaching job at Sh!tkicker U better than an assistant job at SMU? Natchitoches is a hole!
If he wants to advance his career he has to start as a head coach some place.
Right, but can you qualify NW St as "some place"? That's the real question.

jk - if you expected him to turn this thing in one year with two weeks of recruiting - your football knowledge is zilch. Have some maturity.

This "he must see the writing on the wall" stuff is absolutely insane. He makes a good living at SMU, but rest assured the head coaching gig at any school - even Northwestern State - pays more than an assistant coaching gig at SMU. This is nothing more than kicking the tires. Maybe he has a friend working there or something. If they become so enamored with him that they offer him the moon, he'd be foolish not to look into it, but he's not going anywhere.

If your interested in being a head coach you cannot be picky about where you live. Most head coaches work 18 hour days regardless of where they end up so who cares?
I'm sure it might be [deleted] a wife to go to a place like Ames, Iowa or College Station, Texas. Desolate culturally challenged Shitholes.
Look at Saban. Tuscaloosa? Think he cares? I doubt it. He is so driven it hardly matters.
How about June Jones coming to Dallas. There is a reason Hawaii is the most expensive place to live in the lower 48 and Dallas is one of the least expensive.
The point being its not really a consideration for most of these guys.

I know that he is thrilled, with his kids being in the HP schools.

He could be just beginning the process of politicing to be named "coach in waiting" within the next couple of years. If Jones does want to retire after his contract ends, for continuance (assuming something has been accomplished to continue) for recruiting purposes, we need to have a new coach named and preferrably on staff already. We can not let Jones' contract expire and then go find a new coach. This could well be a way for Coach R to build a little leverage for a possible future job at SMU.

I didn't realize Hawaii was the most expensive place to live in the lower 48. In fact, I didn't realize Hawaii was in the lower 48.

Will some of you people suck it up and grow a pair?!?!? Please. Dude applied for a job. So what? Hope he stays, but this is not anything that other schools don't have to deal with. This school's fans need to dump the fatalistic attitude.
