And didn't Leach call a timeout against us right before trying that pass to the end zone with like 17 seconds left? I believe that helped fuel the fire for Bennet vs. Leach.
Re: The Death of Late Game Sportsmanship
I understand the enormous temptations caused by the current system, but running up the score is, has always been, and will always be unsportsmanlike. End of story.
1. Computers are required NOT to take margin of victory into account. Computers factor in style points only to the extent the style points are indirectly reflected by polls. Other things I've seen criticized, such as weighing later season big wins (such as OU's over Tech) higher than earlier season wins (such as Texas over OU) more heavily are the kind of thing that the NCAA basketball tourney committee take into account too. That system, which everyone now seems to agree is the better system, also prefers teams that are hotter down the stretch.
2. If head to head is all that matters, then Tech should be in a BCS bowl and Texas should be in the Cotton, right? But since I don't hear Mack or the media kveching about Tech being robbed because they beat Texas head to head, then obviously something else DOES matter, like strength of wins and strength of losses. 3. Oklahoma was ahead in the BCS computer rankings when both human polls still had Texas above Oklahoma (and after OU beat Tech "with style"). This suggests that computers (who cannot take "style points" into account) saw something in strength of schedule, strength of wins, strength of losses, etc. that the humans didn't take into account. Or more accuractely, the computers didn't take into account something that the humans did, which includes media stumping for Texas.
Of the three coaches Leach, Brown, Stoops - Leach has the worst reputation for running up the score.
TT schedules overmatched opponents for OOC games and then throttles them. Leach is trying to bring attention to his program by killing people. Question: How is that a coach who has performed a miracle on the South Plains is not pursued by every major program looking for a coach? Answer: Leach has a poor reputation and the Auburns, Nebraskas of the world can't sell him to the boosters. Classless winning does not endear you to quality major programs. I've seen Stoops take a knee when he was cushing A&M a few years ago. I was happy to see him blister TT as they finally got to feel what is like to get humiliated. Texas vs A&M - the late TD was scored by the 2nd team. I think Brown eases up on people. He wins with class which explains why UT loves this guy and he is one of the top 3-4 paid coaches in the country. Pony 81
