If college football ever goes to a playoff at the highest level, I sure would like to see the NCAA take the opportunity to restructure somewhat and "regionalize" conferences...not unlike the NFL did a few years back.

Could be inspired by instituting a rule that in order to earn an automatic bid, you have to be champion of a league with at least 12-14 members, decided by a championship game. Go back to an 11 game schedule leaving that 12th week for championship games

Let the PAC-10 add 2 teams (Nevada & UNLV or Boise & Idaho) the Big Ten either add Notre Dame (where they belong) or add both ND & Iowa State - with the Big XII adding Colorado State to replace Iowa State allowing Penn State to join the Big East, which could also add Army, Navy and either Temple or Marshall to get to 12 teams. Maybe the Big East adds both Temple and Marshall and USF plays in a league that includes UCF, FAU & FIU along with other current SunBelt and CUSA teams.

This approach would allow for the re-formation of the SWC with SMU, TCU & UNT all in the same conference joining other schools in Texas, NM, OK, AR & LA

I know this is not likely to ever happen and ironically it would be basketball considerations that might be one of the main stumbling blocks...but I'd still like to see it...and would like to think it could work AND allow some watered down version of the current bowl system to survive.

screw 11 games, go back to 10 or maybe even 9....if you want a true playoff with 3-5 games in it it makes sense not to prolong the season anymore than it is for the sake fo these kids education...listen i know that my sound ironic but thats what it is.

1st round games (at home of higher seed)

#16 Buffalo at #1 Oklahoma
#15 Troy at #2 Forida
#14 ECU at # 3 Texas
#13 V Tech at #4 Bama
#12 Cincy at # 5 USC
#11 TCU at # 6 Utah
#10 Ohio St at # 7 Tex Tech
#9 Boise St at # 9 Penn St

A couple of games of interest, but would probably be well attended because of "home game" reward

2nd round (if seeds hold - games played at bowl sites/determined by bids?)

#1 OU vs #8 OSU*

Wouldn't that be #8 PSU?

yeah because these kids' education is reall a concern. Football players have it the easiest among the major sport athletes from a travel time perspective, etc. NOT TO MENTION playoffs would go down DURING HOLIDAY BREAK..... this education concern argument is complete hogwash.

my point it that there would be more time during the regular season for them to actually go to school if they only played 10 games...im not saying i think these kids are gonna get a's or even b's but its in societies interest to have at least somewhat educated individuals in pro sports, just look to Plaxico who never had the forethought to check if having an unregistered firearm in NYC was an issue.

FCB (1-AA) teams play an 11 game schedule and the teams that go to the 16 team playoff have at most 4 more games. So Montana and Richmond have four extra games this year. James Madison and Appy State had three extra games. And so on down the line. And for the 1-A teams the playoffs could start after exams.
