My favorite SMU moment in Texas Stadium

Eric Dickerson's first game in pony blue. Texas Stadium was nearly full, most with free tickets from local businesses. Kids had free SMU t-shirts on and were really into the game. On one pitch to Eric, he ran to the left side line into a swarm of tacklers. In a second, he pulled free and turned on his patented, straight-up, head back sprinting form, and sped down the side line into the end zone. The kids were screaming, I was screaming and the stadium was louder than any Cowboy game I have attended. Everyone knew Eric had demonstrated what made him special, and perhaps the best running back ever when you combine college with pro.

in that case, this one will do you in. Not Texas Stadium, but listen to the crowd after the TD

That was one of the coldest days I can remember for a Cotton Bowl game and yes I was there for the "Ice Bowl Game". I am still mad at Bobby Collins for his poor clock management against Arkansas. Anyway, Lance was the best option QB I ever saw run the veer offense.

This may not be my favorite memory at Texas Stadium, but I remember Reggie Dupard, as a freshman, breaking a long run for a touchdown against Tulane in 1982 and thinking that we were pretty deep at the position.

My favorite Texas Stadium/SMU moment was when SMU announced they were not going to play games in Texas Stadium, but would play in the Cotton Bowl while Ford was being built.

The only good thing to come from the death penalty.

I hate that stadium.
Just send 'da money.

Though it isn't a football moment, it is one of my life's highlights to have met and shake hands with Jesse Owens. It was 1979. SMU was playing TTU. THe Lambda Pies had raised money for the 1980 Olympics team and they were presenting the check to the US Olympic Fund at halftime. Owens was there to accept the check.

During the first half, I had a hit after a catch over the middle that really hurt my neck. Right before the end of the half, I caught a pass and got hit going out of bounds that hurt my knee. Idon't know what they gave me at halftime, but I went from half useless to 100% in 20 minutes.

After the half, when the team came back onto the field, Jesse Owens was in the SMU bench area.

Jesse Owens was like a greek god to me. He single handedly defeated Hilter in the 1936 Olympics.

He was much shorter than I expected. He was a tad overweight and wore glasses. But his eyes had joy and mirth in them.

I went out of my way to shake his hand and to introduce myself. It was as if just for a brief moment one could touch history.

He shook my hand and said, "Don't get hurt."

All I could mutter was, "Your a Half too late."

Can you believe that! Way to blow one's brush with history.

Best Texas Stadium moment: closing it with a loss to Baltimore.

They can't implode that dump fast enough.
