So that will leave us with possibly 4 teams with a pretty solid case for the top spot. Ummmm...what do you call it when you line up a series of events where teams compete and winners advance until only one remains?
13-0 Utah 12-1 USC 13-1 Winner of Oklahoma/Florida 11-1 Texas if they win.
Would not UT be 12 - 1 if they win ?

Glad to see the Utes win but Bama was never as good as their record indicated and it showed in the end.

2009 Sugar Bowl:
Utah (MWC) 31 - Alabama (SEC) 17
Another giant milestone in the MWC's march to the BCS.

Or at least Utah's...considering they are the only MWC team to go to a BCS bowl.

Two MWC teams in the Top 8 or 9 and a decent BYU team as well-this is the best performance by an allegedly non-BCS conference-you got to tip your hat. And don't forget that the MWC won the Bowl Challenge in the previous year for best overall Bowl Record. They may not of passed any BCS Conferences from top to bottom-although I'll debate that but the BCS Conferences are certainly looking over their shoulders. I still think they should seriously consider adding Boise St. to make their argument for BCS inclusion even stronger. The MWC is far and away better than any non-BCS conference-Its laughable not to concede that.

I don't buy that BYU was so "decent" this year...they got slaughtered by TCU (who is admittedly very good), beaten soundly by Utah (who, admittedly, has a claim to the national championship now), and then dropped their bowl game to an average-at-best Arizona team.
So, while BYU was better than SMU this year, I don't think they should be considered a top 25 or even top 35 team. Probably around #40 would be more accurate.
EDIT: I'm not saying that the MWC isn't the best non-BCS conference, just that BYU is a bit overrated.

Couldn't agree more about the MWC jumping on this opportunity...add Boise State in exchange for a permanent spot in the BCS.

Right or wrong, the BCS will ask for more than just Boise State if they are going to allow another hand to share in the money. It's going to take adding Boise, possibly Fresno, and possibly Houston, and dropping some of the dead weight at the bottom of the conference. Right now, they are seen as a mid-major conference with a few good programs. They need to shift their image to being a major conference BEFORE the BCS will consider including their conference.

Why would the other cartel members expand the number of hands in the till? Thier is no incentive for them to do that until they get sued (and I mean seriously sued).
The BCS will not let anyone else in or change thier system without legal action.

I agree they won't expand. On the other hand those fans disguised as empty seats at the Rose, Sugar and Orange Bowls ought to be sending chills down the spines of the BCS lords. Let's be real honest. New Year's Day was devalued by the BCS. Get up at noon, drink a bloody mary watch the Cotton, Rose, Sugar/Orange (sometimes with multiple tv's). Now the Blackhawks vs. the Red Wings got higher ratings than the Outback and GMAC Bowls. And the Rose Bowl was a yawn. Now that the Bowls have become exhibitions without meaning who watches them? I think a playoff may very well be coming and the bowls together with the networks will be behind it. The question is if a playoff is adopted with the 12 team conferences cease having championship games.

SEC is overated. They start the season strong by beating D-2 schools and then beat eachother up in their conference. Then their 2nd place team loses to Utah (or LSU almost losing to Troy State. Where is Troy State.......South Dakota???).
Hey SEC.....play some top tier non-conference schools at the beginning of the season. Let's see what you are made of.
If other conferences followed the SEC model (i.e. playing NW Eastern College State) they would be in the BSC championship game every year.

Other conferences schedule weak non conference as well (just look at the Big 12 out of conference games) - SEC is the best conference without a doubt and the bowl games prove it. Their better teams were in their East division this year - thus the Alabama issue (in the West). Their fourth or fifth best team just took Tech to the woodshed - that was pretty convincing.

Ambiguity leaves something for sports networks and guys around the watercooler to discuss.
