I hope that Jones isn't just picking guys who are buried on the depth chart and kicking them off the team, but there is clearly a handful of guys that are content to sit back with their 40K a year scholarship and coast by. Get those kids out of here and bring in some guys that want to earn their scholarship and be a part of what gets this thing going in the right direction.
Well, many of us believed that the program was soiled by the culture of just doing enough to get by. And some were critical when BLM was publicly critical of teammates.
Sometimes, we just don't know the story. As I have maintained, if you are going to get a program to change, you have to do it from the inside first in order the results you want on the outside.

Here's the full list, by the way:
The players are: CB De'Von Bailey, LB Taylor Bon, RB Ben Goldthorpe, LB Julian Herron, DE Jordan Johnson, CB Deyon McElroy, LB Alex Odiari, OL Andrew Robiskie and DE Anthony Sowe. All are being released for either reportedly breaking a team rule or violating school policy.

this has been in the works since at least the end of the season-how do I know-because the mathematics didn't make sense when SMU already had 20 commitments (already well over the 85 man limit but were still strong recruiting bushels of players). It was a planned thinning to make way for a full class.

"Planned"? or "Already determined, but not announced"?
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

With respect the the future of all these kids, I love the move. It's about time we stopped slapping players on the wrist for pathetic attitudes. It's the same reason why so many of our relatively coveted recruits so often fail to make any impact.
June has the skins on the wall to shake this thing up however he likes and he obviously feels he's making room for more talented, disciplined players.
I'm kind of surprised to that Robiskie is one of the guys, considering the type of player his brother is...Julian Herron has been recruited over in the small, fast linebacker category. The only short term hurt might be depth at DE with the loss of Sowe and Johnson.

It was "planned" that they needed to trim a whole bunch of players from the roster to get down to 85. Many had been speculating about this for several months-I'm sure many on this board already had their roster out trying to figure out who would not be back. Most I had discussed this with thought it would come after spring practice-but now that its done I think its preferrable that it happened before "spring powder puff flag days" so that the coaching staff can focus on the players remaining. (Plus there weren't enough flags to go around for a full scrimmage).

The later, the article mentioned they had already made arrangements with other schools for those athletes.

It is? Between the 4 of them they made 27 tackles last year. Combined. Bailey is the only one who even played in more than 5 games.
Exactly. I was glad to see that the majority of the players let go were on defense. Considering how our defense performed last year you could have cut it entirley and it would not be much of a loss.

At least he didn't start with..."Due to recent economic conditions...."
It's never good to see guys leave; by their own account or the schools. However, I think that if June wants to change the culture around here he is definitely making the right moves.
Is it better to be feared or respected?

I think we sort of have to, arent we still 3 over the limit? Either 3 guys leave, or 3 recruits dont qualify, or some combination of leave/fail that brings the final roster down to the limit.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
