maybe Jones can learn something valuable from this too-Jones pretty well stepped over the line of how things are done in Texas and everywhere else. You don't dump 9 players all at one time. I'm sure you guys don't want to hear that but its the truth. Funny how you guys are so in love with those "student athletes" until you find someone better. If a kid goes to class and follows team and university rules don't try to pawn off your recruiting mistakes on someone else. Recruit better players. I have no problems getting rid of those that don't meet that standard. I'd really have to give Jones pretty low grades for motivating and developing the players he does have.

He has only been hear one year. It usually takes longer to develop players. Especially ones he did not recruit(which is most of the team).

I know you've read "Meat on the Hoof" - Stallion. St. Darryl Royal though got them to quit by just torturing them until they quit. I guess that's the way things are done in Texas. JJ's old school on this.

Sowe Johnson and Bon are all academic juniors, technically, with this one year they should graduate. But seeing that they were probably on the 5 year plan, this may not really apply.

Have you bugged every room and phone in the football offices to speak accurately about this or are you just judging this through the paper? If you are using the latter, that's pretty dangerous.

I must agree with this statement. In business if you make a mistake you must wear it. A school should wear its recruiting mistakes as well.

fine, then make it a rule. everyone else has been doing this, just not talking about it (though maybe not 9 at a time). when we do it, it's suddenly a tragedy. personally, i agree it sucks but our MODEL has to be on an equal footing with everyone else or we'll never be competitive

So, if any/all of these 3 kids decide not to come back to school next year, does the scholarship open back up or is it burned for next year?????????

I am thrilled June Jones isn't doing things the way "things are done in Texas". We've been living far too long to please others. Screw that!....if June decides to dump a bunch of dead weight to hasten our return to winning and it pisses off a few people....well...cry me a river!....and to all the loser fans "cheering" about the three players "winning" their case against what our coach wants....your days are numbered for finding joy about SMU being a joke football team. June Jones is the man.....Keep it up coach!

I support June Jones 100%.

For the guys that won thier appeal. I certainly hope they study hard and make the best of the final year, because they wont walk around campus with head held high after that.

You really can't fault the players that won their appeals. June Jones mishandled a delicate situation. He didn't need to soil their reputations by falsely accusing them of violating team rules. It is obvious that they sucked as players and were wrongly labeled. Call them what they are, terrible football players, but don't go soiling peoples reputations by saying they violated team rules. Had Jones been up front with them, they may have been able to come to terms on an amicable release. I really hope Jones successfully turns things around at SMU. However, I know that if I were a recruit I would not want to play for an insincere coach like that, and I say that as an SMU letterman. Plus, wouldn't it be a bigger statement to say that if you don't have talent and don't produce the result needed to be a Championship team, you will not make it at SMU?

If the conjecture is that this will be bad PR around the state with the Texas High School coaches -- and I'll advise some of you that some of this stuff will be relayed 5th and 6th hand -- then those Texas high school coaches would be wise to learn on their own what happened and make a determination rather than rely on a half truth for their facts.

And I've been around enough Texas high school coaches who are very guilty of doing that.

There's no doubt we need to have a good relationship with this fraternity but the coaches owe it to themselves to learn more before they pass judgment.

June did pretty well in recruiting after SMU had back to back one win seasons. SMU is now being mentioned by recruits considering Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, and other Big 12 schools. I doubt June is losing any sleep over this so-called "issue". W's will make this a non-issue. I fully support June Jones doing what he has to do to make us a better football team even if some feelings get hurt along the way.
