GSP,

May God grant you and your family peace as you grieve and remember, and grant rest to this patriot...and may you live your life in the worthy manner that your father did. In my book he was a hero for serving our nation and protecting our freedom, and for raising a child that would have the courage to have a voice.

May his tribe increase.

Dear GP:
Your mom and dad are now one again and in the warmth of Our Lord.

I lost my dad a little over a year ago and he was a glider pilot in WWII. My Uncle was in Patton's 5th. These men knew what it took to be Americans and fight for freedom. Yes, they could be ubrupt but that is when they really wanted to make a point stick.

You are a credit to your family and to SMU.

Peace be with you.

So sorry to hear about your dad, but I'm glad you were able to have as a great a relationship with him as I had with mine. Nothing wrong with being a horse's butt (that's always been part of your charm and appeal), as long as you're a good husband, father and son (and PonyFan), and you clearly are all of those.

All I want to thank you for your compassion. It means a great deal. His funeral is Aug 19 and I am giving his eulogy.

As I started to go through his things to keep and throw away -- He was the master pack rat -- I found some things to share with you:
First, I found a trip schedule when he and my mom came for Parents Weekend 1987. He wrote a note that said "This is for your sentimental journey of the past. This is the important time for both you and me."

Second, I found a game ticket when SMU played UNLV on Dec. 1 1984 at the Silver Bowl. I remember being at that game.

Obviously I'm keeping these.

But the most riveting for me was finding his discharge papers from WW II on Nov. 24, 1945. He finished with the ranking of corporal.

So while I grieve and cry here and there this journey of looking at his life has been exciting and
therapeutic simultaneously. I woulent change a thing.
