We need to do both. We are not at the point where we can turn away anyone. Some of the coaches have good relationships with HS coaches in other states they don not need to let those go dormant. Concentrate regionally and cherry pick nationally. I guess Louisiana would still be considered regional.

"I would be constantly bragging about the local talent and coaching(stroke those egos)"

I agree.

I thought it was interesting when I was looking at the Penn State website the other day....on the player roster they not only list the player's high school...they also list the player's high school coach's name. Can't hurt. Check it out at the link below.

-JJ went far and wide in 2008 largely because he only had 3 weeks to recruit.
-Don't worry, the staff sees the benefit in getting kids from the area.
-Shreveport is closer than Austin. Fontana and Brown were from Louisiana last year as are a couple of commitments from LA kids this year. We narrowly missed out on a few others.

Don't forget the safety from Baton Rouge, Robert Lloyd. He was recruited late and there were no scholarships left. He's the strongest freshmen in the skill positions, benching 320+, and can really run. At 6', he can two-hand flush also. Thank Reinebold for him. Also, if Reinebold can pick up the OL kid from Destrehan, it would be huge for the program. The kids in Louisiana would rather pick SMU and other schools out of their state, except for maybe La Tech, if they can't play at LSU. Who wouldn't. We have a lot to offer right now and it is key to get the kids that will make the program a winner.

As I noted earlier, when we are winning, it is MUCH easier to get the kids from closer to campus. Give it time. Marathon, not a sprint.
