I remember in middle and high school in the 90s (Garland ISD) NO ONE wore Longhorns stuff...it was all either A&M, Notre Dame, or a few others. UT sucked back then and some day they will suck again - that's how it goes.

At least we're consistent.

Hoop Fan wrote:just wait til your kid goes to school with his SMU gear on. he will take alot of crap, whether you live in Plano, or Garland or the Park Cities. My kid chooses to wear his gear anyway, I respect him for it. But it does get old for the kids, just like the beat down gets old for us long time fans. I have instilled the loyalty aspect I think, but honestly I think my son has already developed his own dysfunction about the Ponies. He definitely is not as interested as he used to be, which is sad for me as a dad. Hell, I had the kid on my lap as infant at the SMU-Arkansas game at Shreveport over a decade ago. Thats a good memory for me, but he doesnt remember it and doesnt have many good mustang memories. One he does have is the TCU game in 2005 but the good days are few and far between. Its beyond time for SMU to give its fans, young and old, something to be proud of.

I think we are losing the younger generation at a fast rate. Something needs to happen or we will have lost an entire generation of fans.

(This one speaks to loyalty, and your son won't get it, but.... heard this one once in a commercial, a Packers fan was talking about the Packers. I changed it to Mustangs and have kept it as a mantra ever since.) The Mustangs are like your children. You don't love them because they are good, you love them because they are yours.

Tell your kid to go up to Bo Levi Mitchell after the game and say "Hey Mr. Mitchell, want my Coke?" and then see if Mitchell throws his jersey to a TCU fan.

I don't love the way he's played, but I won't run him down on this board for it. This is a team sport.

Last time I said something nice about Mitchell he threw 4 Ints within 20 minutes. (Something to the effect of what a great job he was doing into the 3rd Q of the previous Saturday and most importantly NO TURNOVERS!!!!!!!!!) I have been directed by Ponyfans to refrain from further compliments.

Absolutely. He just catches the fire because he is the most visible position. But with this position comes much responsibility on and off the field. I don't know how he's taking care of business off the field but I hope he's responsible enough to recognize what comes with the job description of being the starting quarterback of a Division I football team.

Thank you kind sir. I have been in a slump and needed to hit one out of the infield.

Put him in an SMU t-shirt. Take him to Fort Worth. Buy him a hot dog & some cotton candy. And have a good family time.
