Liberty Bowl takes CUSA champion. The rest of the bowls are slotted 2-6 and pick whoever they want as long as they are bowl eligible plus meet the NCAA rule on 7/6 win teams. In recent years though CUSA has taken an agressive role in placing regional teams in regional bowls to help both the bowls and teams fill stadiums. The Hawaii Bowl though doesn't really fit though because of distance. BTW does anybody know if there is a guaranteed ticket sales requirement for the Hawaii Bowl or do they have exception. If not if SMU doesn't sell required amount university would have to eat the tickets which in Hawaii Bowl could be expensive. Usually those required sales amounts I think are in the 8,000 range I think. I would think 2,000 might be heroic for SMU under the Christmas week situation.

No.

Well that is dumb.

**Hawaii Bowl gets first pick after Liberty Bowl, after that the CUSA bowl selections are a free-for-all.

It will take 7 wins.

Remember we have been bowl eligible twice in the last 20 years and not gotten a bowl bid. We don't have the ticket sales or the tv audience to get a non-automatic bid. Even if there is a sixth bowl available, we will most likely not be the only 6-6 team.

Texas Bowl is not likely an option--unless Texas makes the national title game and Nebraska or Kansas can manage to get into the BCS as well, the Big 12 will use all of their bowls this year. (I suppose if OU wins Saturday, then Texas and OU could potentially both make the BCS as well.)

If we do get a bowl, it will be in Fort Worth. If we hit 7 wins, they will pick us early hoping for higher ticket sales. (Recall 2006--they had already cut a deal with the New Orleans Bowl to take us if we had beaten Rice.)

as of today checking kayak.com for travel cost. DFW to Honolulu non stop with AA is $1147.
dec 23 out, return dec 26 also 8 hour flight.

Even if you were to check a month from now (mid November flights) it’s in the $650-$750 range.
I doubt SMU fans will be attending in large numbers.
on national news last night they were saying air fares will not be going down this holiday season due to reduce flights.

The Hawaii bowl would be best for the team overall.

1 - Rewarding the staff and players, including the redshirts and walk-ons. Trust me, this is HUGE for recruiting. Particularly for the guys that will not play until next year. That is exactly the thing potential recruits want to see and hear. The program has enough of an issue explaining to recruits why only about 60 dress for games now. Sending the "105" and more to a bowl will help.

2 - The obvious extra practice time the squad would get. As we all know, coaches everywhere talk about how much more advanced a team is following a bowl year game when they were able to have an extra 3-4 weeks of practice.

3 - The perception and image of "we are on our way back" with SMU football. This elevates the pysche of all members of the program and the supporters.

i do agree though, one game at a time.

Beautiful on the Blvd. tomorrow. Special day.

I read about this a couple of days ago. I will try and find the article. Hawaii bowl actually has one of the lowest ticket requirements of all the bowls.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I do not see Army winning 3 more games this year. More like one or two.

If we do make it to the Hawaii Bowl what are the chances that Peruna will be the main course at a Luau honoring June Jones?
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
