Re: Thousands of people...maybe we should make turnstiles mazes and exaggerated security checks at the exits midway through the 2nd quarter so that when they come in...we've got 'em
Re: Thousands of people...TriState thank you. You make some very valid points, although I am not sure it is as high as "thousands" out on the Blvd after kickoff. We as SMU fans must take your words to heart and work on helping to solve this. The tailgate spot owners have the power to greatly diminish this problem. The solution is for tailgate spot owners to begin to make a real effort to shut their spots down at kickoff(us included). Most tailgate spots do this anyway, but the ones' (like us) that don't, need to work on making it happen. After-all there will be no partiers if there is no party. As long as there is free food/free booze/free tv's out on the Blvd people will tend to linger out on the Blvd.
It is hard to be a "party pooper" but tailgate spot owners must realize we are there primarily to support the SMU football team. It does not help our team if we as tailgate spot owners provide enticements (food/booze/tv's) for people to stay on the Blvd after kick-off. When we look around the stadium and see lots of empty seats I guess it is partly our own fault. We have been guilty of this and it happened during the SFA game earlier this year. After that disaster we made some adjustments. We will continue to make adjustments with a goal of shut-down at kickoff. We may not be perfect but will work towards that goal. Any other ideas about this subject would be appreciated. I wonder how this plays out at other schools? Are there "thousands" of people out on the Grove at Ole Miss during games? I guess if the game is a true sell-out at places like Texas/ND/Michigan/Ohio State it doesn't really matter how many people stay out at the tailgates? Re: Thousands of people...There are hundreds of people at TCU tailgates that don't make it into the stadium either unless it's for a restroom break. TCU does BTW have re-entry allowed. They stamp your hand on the way out and then you can get in and out as you so desire. Wish SMU would do that, but we have had the no re-entry policy since Ford Stadium opened. What is the policy at other stadiums? I went up to a Tulsa game a few years ago and they allowed re-entry.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Thousands of people...Ponyfans.com is where it is at.
This is where the hardcore fans are and they know what needs to be done to improve SMU football fan attendance and experience. You can make a difference to improve attendance buy just doing what you are doing right now. Email Orsini. Email the newspapers. This supports the football program, the team, the players, the coaches. It sounds small but I just want to let ya'll know that the Hawaii board mad some noise and it was published on the Hawaii newspapers and addressed by the AD. Infact, the Hawaii AD does read the Hawaii borads and responds. The SMU AD needs to do the same!!!! Ya'll can do it!!! Go Ponyfans.com! Go Mustangs! Support the team and coaches! ![]() ![]() ![]()
Re: Thousands of people...I had a friend join our group early in the second quarter, and he said there were at least 2,000 on the 'Vard. We need them in the stands, if the party is too great to leave, start earlier then, and then go back after the game.
Re: Thousands of people...The biggest groups were recent alums up by the student center, top of the circle and McFarlin area.
I don't think UH allows reentry but we sell beer. I'd also like everyone to go to all red, all blue or all white. It's mostly red but one solid color is pretty cool. This stuff was all an issue at UT until a few years ago when Mack Brown brought his UNC slogan to UT, ""Come early, be loud, stay late.†Before that, UT fans were notorious for leaving early. Great win. It's really fun watching games at Ford and it's rather family friendly with the bounce houses and opportunity to run around and play. It was amuzing that security got pretty tight and moved fans up the berm. With empty seats in the stands, it's good to limit berm activity. It's cool when it's SRO but not when there are 17K empty seats. Beat UTEP!
Re: Thousands of people...
I went to gate 103 and was hassled big time, so it's not come and go as you please. I ended up asking one of the guys in yellow if I could come back in, he said only if I came back to him. Got back to 103 about 15 minutes later and every other yellow shirt showed up and wouldn't let me in. Finally I just ran through when they got distracted and back to my seat. Stupid, stupid policy in a stadium that only has 15k attending homecoming...
Re: Thousands of people...Sounds like even the yellow jackets have no clue.
Orsini needs to know this is why many people leave at halftime and don't come back./
