Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??Remember that Ford stadium is in University Park and there are restrictions on liquor by the drink. Even upstairs in the Stadium Club seats you have to buy some sort of membership to get a drink. But I cannot think of any other schools that sell alcohol during their games other than last year at the Tulane game. They were selling drinks in the Super Dome.
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??Another problem is a lot of kids have other allegiances too. That Bama/LSU game was on around the same time.....
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??
Are you serious? You are acting like we have been winning for years and the students don't show up. We are on our way to one of the first winning seasons in 20 years. RELAX. things will change, its not gonna just happen upon the 5th win of theseason...it may take 2 or 3 winning seasons until going to the football games is the thing to do instead of going to Milo's and drinking cheep beer and watching the other football games (top 25 teams) on TV.
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??Time to reajust their allegances...SMU is their alma mater, not some 2nd rate state universities. The SEC maybe great in football, but lets face it their state universities are not exactly at the top of the class. Even TTU would give most of them a run for academic excellence.

Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??We all have very short memories. On average, we are enjoying the best student turnout in years. It's still pathetic, but it's a step from the absolutely dreadful we've seen in year's past.
My personal belief is that attendance for all age groups and persuasions would see a nice bump if we sold alcohol, but for varied reasons that will never happen on the hilltop. However, I do not see that as a cure all. Plenty of pathetic teams sell alcohol and still can't get decent crowds. I think regardless of our concession policies, a few years of good teams and bowl appearances will change the perception of SMU games in the student's minds. I mean do we all forget how absolutely terrible the product on the field has been the past 20+ years? Should we really blame theses kids? They do need to reverse the no re-entry policy pronto! No reason for this madness! #NewLobCity
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??Approx. 40% of college stadiums sell alcohol at college games.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??If I am correct, most of these students have not had to put up with a 20 year drought, just most of us. They have only been on campus less than two years (average).
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??
I meant that if we were 1-8 at this point in the season, I understand why students do not show up. But when we are tied for first place in our division, there should be more excitement and higher attendance. I understand it takes time and look forward to the day that we are ranked and the stands are filled. Last edited by ponyinNC on Mon Nov 09, 2009 3:51 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Yes, our student body sucks when it comes to backing our athletic programs.
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??
But they are between 18 and 22, so they have never heard of the Mustangs as a winning team..... GO Ponies!!!!
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??
As far as most students, and most people under the age of 30, SMU, and CUSA, might as well be Div-IAA. Leading this conference is meaningless when you play mostly teams they have never heard of before. "I think Couchem is right."

Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??agreed. and also, sometimes you take those saturdays for granted until you graduate...
Re: Are the students too high class to come to the game??You had your normal folks who left at halftime of the homecoming game. But I thought student attendance and energy was strong.
