I think attendance would be solid - see the Rice game in 2006 as an example.

Casual fans and students don't show up in large numbers for a "regular" game, but I think they would for a bowl, no matter how insignificant it might be on a national scale.

Now if we go bowling this year and then next year go to the nowhere bowl, then I think you're right...attendance would probably be weak. We excel in frontrunning at SMU, and once we actually make a bowl we'll just suck again for only making it to crappy ones.

Maybe after the Tulane game and if we don't make the championship playoff?

It depends on the bowl. Probably wouldn't hear anything until after the Tulane game at the earliest. Most can't announce until after the conference championship games and the BCS selections have been made though, but this isn't really an issue for C-USA.

If C-USA rules don't prohibit an early announcement, the Hawaii bowl could announce once the CCG teams were locked in--if they didn't want one of those teams. Armed Forces bowl could then announce after Hawaii (or if Hawaii committed to take the loser of the CCG.)

I think anyone and everyone who projects us anywhere but Hawaii simply is a disinterested observer that has no idea what the deal is with SMU (and why would they). They look at the list of bowls, the conference tie-ins, what the current records are in that conference, then distribute them.

Anyone who's half paid attention knows that if this team is going to a bowl other than as the conference champion, it is going to Hawaii.

I agree-we are going to Hawaii, Liberty or the Toilet Bowl. Might as well get used to it.

This is what worries me a bit and why I have asked before....I have never heard anyone from the Hawaii bowl officially say they would offer SMU a berth with 6 wins or even more wins. Has anyone besides JJ and Reinbold made any public statements? Rivals.co headline says one more win and we receive a "bowl bid". That is why just winning six may not be enough, as it wasn't two years ago. If we don't get a bowl bid, especially Hawaii, with a 6-6 record, what would be the ramifications? Major disappointment and can you imagine how the players would feel? That is why I think there has to be a personal guarantee from someone in power that it would happen or a coach would never bring it up or else he would lose all credibility for the future. I believe in June.

I get a strong feeling from comments made at the luncheons that Hawaii is where we will go if we don't play in the Liberty Bowl, and after Tulsa failed to beat Houston, I don't see that happening.

I am must more worried about whether we will get 6 wins. I can easily see us at 5-6 playing Tulane......don't know if I could take the pressure.

Have faith.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I also fear this...if we lose to UTEP 5-6 is a very real possibility. Playing in front of 300 fans might bring out the best in Tulane since it will feel like a home game.

I'll be at the Tulane game (flying back early from the ATL) to watch us win our 8th game.
