Re: Where were you on December 29, 1984Not quite 2 years old at that time. My first memories (and the reason I became a fan) of SMU were the great Ramon Flanigan.

Re: Where were you on December 29, 1984Although I lived in Dallas, I watched the game from my snow bound CO mountain cabin with wife and sons.
Re: Where were you on December 29, 1984I was watching the game.

Re: Where were you on December 29, 1984I was working at Stanford University Med. Center as an OR Tech. I was also going to San Fransisco State University. I also heard the rumblings, I was far away. If my memory serves me, SMU could have scored again. I was at home in Cupertino, CA. I was kinda scared, about the game, and talk and papers. Did not ever think it would ever happen, not that bad. It is done.
It is over. It is finally over.
Re: Where were you on December 29, 1984One month and 22 days old. Living in a condo on Bordeaux. Probably wearing a Mustang t-shirt.
Amazing to think it has been almost exactly my entire life. What a day.
Re: Where were you on December 29, 1984
I hope, I really hope, that someday UT will play SMU again. I also hope that you will attend. I will be there, from PHX. A new day has started.
Re: Where were you on December 29, 1984
I'll be there!
Re: Where were you on December 29, 19842015 would be a good year for S.M.U. to schedule UT. 50th anniversary of the day I got my pf.com name and the Mustangs defeated the 'Horns, 31-14 for Homecoming. ![]()
Re: Where were you on December 29, 1984I was home (Longview) for Christmas break watching with my family, all SMU grads except my Dad, who screwed up and graduated from Texas. But for that game, he was a Mustang fan.
I wish both my parents were around to see us go back to a bowl. "Once the number 3, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."
New post SMU lands In The College Football Playoff Facing Penn State.
Re: Where were you on December 29, 1984I graduated in '81 and was in Hawaii, with my sister and brother-in-law (SMU grads, too) for the game!! I remember walking around and seeing ND players and commenting on how huge they looked. It was a wonderful time--much better weather than the Cotton Bowl game against Pitt (thank goodness for a flask and Wild Turkey!!!). I am so glad that current students and younger alums than me can experience this awesome time. Better slow down on wanting to go whip up on UT---that is what caused the DP in the first place---a small private university isn't suppose to be able to out-compete a huge state school on any level! I will be watching the game from home so those of you who will be in Hawaii please put some pony ears up for me!!PONY UP and GO MUSTANGS!!!
Re: Where were you on December 29, 1984I was on a ski trip in Gunnison, Colorado with my explorer post as a junior in high school. A few of us watched the game at the place where we were staying.
Re: Where were you on December 29, 1984I remember we hurried home from Christmas Eve church service so we could watch the game. It was a methodist church and the minister cracked a joke that he needed to be short winded so we could all go home and watch the game.
Funny thing is that we will be doing the same this year. The only difference is that I am in Dallas instead of Minneapolis and my kids are the same age I was when watching in 84. Go Ponies!!!
Re: Where were you on December 29, 1984My wife, three sons and I were 15 rows up on the 50 yd. line at the Aloha Bowl. What a great game ! As you can tell, I'm older than dirt. Go ponies !!!
