As someone who was sitting right next to OC Mustang at the aforementioned Snuffer's, I can tell you I have VERY rarely seen two boys more excited. They wanted nothing more than to tell me about the glove, how they got it, the fact that they had Jared's armband from a few years back, the proper pronunciation of Margus' last name (which apparently is "Hoint") and how much they loved SMU football.

It was a delight meeting OC and his family, and I agree with him... more so than wins or losses, if the types of things I saw Saturday (OC's boys and the truly heartfelt hugs during the post-game senior walk) are any indication of where this program is headed, then I one hundred times more proud of this team than I could ever be of National Champions with players involved in any number of the seedy activities we have seen throughout college football this year.

The" hulk" also took time 2 visit with me & my kids on
the field after the game & I was very impressed
with the way he handled himself.
Very personable & polite.

Also visited with Sterling Moore. What a great
personality. Appreciate the "playmaker"
taking pictures with my kids. Really hope he's able to get back
for the bowl game.

He has VCFS...Velo Cardio Facial Syndrome (look up Quinn Bradlee...he is the most well-known VCF individual). Think aspects of autism (awkward with social cues) coupled with learning disabilities and major health issues, but a phonographic memory (recalls everything he hears). He is the reason that I loathe the word "[deleted]" and I give a round of guff to anyone I see use that word on the board. It's a dad thing, and if you have a special child, grandchild, or buddy who has an issue or two, you get it in ways that others don't.

Here's the point of the back story: Margus Hunt, who could have just as easily run off with his team, stopped for a moment to give his gloves to children. Particularly, he tossed one up to my boys (I have two boys...the oldest has Jared Romo's armband from years ago). They didn't catch it the first time, and Margus comes over, picks his glove up, and hands it to my youngest.

@Margus: I don't know if he reads this board...but if he does, or if someone who knows him does, I want him to know that he has lifelong fans in my wife, myself, and my boys. His simple act, probably an afterthought to him, brought a 10 year old little boy (who is really 7 or 8 in his own little head) to new heights and a 40 year old man to tears to see his son soooo happy. He was a chatterbox through Snuffers and a two-hour ride home. "Margus Hunt is awesome. I will remember that moment forever! Daddy, I want a jersey like his. I love SMU." He refused to sleep, and he and his brother traded the glove back and forth as a keepsake all of the way home.

Margus, for that brief moment of happiness, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It means more to my son than anything you did on the field for your team. If that is the heart and soul of this Mustang team...if that is what June Jones and his staff have really given the Hilltop, then you and your team have a special gift, and I appreciate you sharing it my sons.

I emailed it to him.

@Dutch & PonyPride: Thanks fellas. I appreciate it very, very much.
@ender3: Very nice to see visit with you and your family.

@everybody: thank you so much for the warm regards. I'm in the Big Easy this week for training...and all I have heard from my boys has been how awesome a weekend it was.

Here's to hoping we can get home Friday before it snows. :)

OC Mustang- great story. I hope we continue to recruit this class of athlete.
Also, I wish someone would get one of the coaches to mention to the players how important it is to be 'classy and understanding' with all young fans. The players probably do not realize the profound influence they have on these young children. Hopefully a lot of these youngsters will be future SMU students and possibly athletes.

GO PONIES!!!
