Re: OT: Mangino outHe is a victim of political correctedness. What a farce. Wyatt Posey at Texas Tech in 1953 or later at Georgia would not have lasted a minute today.
Re: OT: Mangino outI hear HArbaugh and Sumlin is at the top of the list
Re: OT: Mangino outAdd in Bear Bryant at A&M, and saint Darrell Royal at UT. Those guys were tough. UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: OT: Mangino out
Anyone would fit in a spot he left
Re: OT: Mangino out
Is that a step up for Harbaugh???
Re: OT: Mangino outNo, but they can pay him double what he is making now, and I hear his wife is KU alum...
Sumlin would be a great hire for them
Re: OT: Mangino out
![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: OT: Mangino out
Meh, he was victim of his own loud mouth.
Re: OT: Mangino outAnd all you can eat establishments in Lawrence weep at the loss of business.
Re: OT: Mangino outKU won only 3 bowl games in the first 101 years of football. Mangino comes there, wins 3 bowl games including a BCS Orange Bowl over Va. Tech and gets run off because he had the "nerve" to talk ugly to some players who were farting around.
I just love it when the former players come out of the woodwork to dogpile on this. What a cowardly way of doing things. If those players had a problem with Mangino, they should have either gone to him or their asst coach to the point where the matter could have been addressed and resolved. This is such baloney. It used to be the militant parents, who are usually at the root of all this stuff, were confined to making life hell for the high school coach. We're now getting to the point where the militant parents have successfully transitioned into college athletics. And it's only going to get worse. The wussification of America continues.
Re: OT: Mangino outAnybody else relieved that SMU locked June Jones up for 2 more years? With all of the firings, June would have been a good coach for a bigger school to steal away.
Re: OT: Mangino outContract extensions mean very little. They're nice and reveal a school's commitment. But let's not be Pollyanna about this either. Coaches have left schools with multiple years on their contracts before and will do it again.
Now I think June is here for awhile but that extension is also not a "do not call" device either. And if your Patterson, your extension is great but you at least pick up the phone and hear what the other guy has to say. Media conjecture and those in the "know" say he's not a candidate for ND. But what they think they know and what they actually know are two different things. This is a transient industry.
Re: OT: Mangino outWhy didn't Mangino ever get the lap band surgery? It would seem he would be an ideal candidate, plus any risks during surgery can't outweigh the damage he is doing to his heart currently.
I don't buy the bit about him getting fired for being verbally and physically abusive. I think it has more to do with this being a down year for them, and the fans and AD not seeing anything in the cupboard to replace Reesing and company. The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Re: OT: Mangino out
I think that's it. Risk outweighed (no pun) the benefit. I had a family friend not make it through a gastric bypass procedure. Tough on the family.
Re: OT: Mangino outLet us be realistic. The investigation on Mangino was carried out by Lori Williams, Assistant Athletic Director for Risk Management. Does that sound like he was fired for not winning enough games?
