Some people have the premise that JJ's offense will put up reduced stats against BCS AQ (I'll just call them BCS) conference teams. I used to track Hawaii's stats vs. BCS or non-BCS conferences and QBs like Colt Brennan and Timmy Chang seemed to do *better* against teams from BCS conferences. The Georgia game was an anomaly, but many things were unusual about the Sugar Bowl. Before people discount Padron's success because of the competition, consider these stats against the other BCS conference teams that Hawaii played:

2007:
Washington: Colt 42/50 passing for 442 yards and 5 TDs with 0 INTs. Not bad.

2006:
at Alabama: Colt 30/44 for 350 yards and 2 TDs with 1 INT. Lots of dropped passes early in the game as the receivers like Bess adjusted to the environment.
Purdue: Colt 33/48 for 434 yards and 3 TDs with 1 INT.
Oregon State: Colt 37/50 for 401 yards and 2 TDs with 2 INTs.
Arizona State: Colt 33/42 for 559 yards and 5 TDs with 1 INT. Hawaii Bowl record.

2005:
USC: Colt/Tyler 33/49 for 377 yards and 2 TDs with 1 INT.
Wisconsin: Colt 33/53 for 403 yards and 3 TDs with 1 INT.

2004:
Northwestern: Chang 31/56 for 405 yards and 4 TDs with 2 INTs.
Michigan State: Chang 29/29 for 416 yards and 4 TDs with 0 INTs.

So, it looks like a 4-year average of over 400 yards passing against BCS conference teams. Even if you add in the Sugar Bowl (311 yards passing) the average would be over 400 yards passing against BCS conference teams.

Kyle's been good for us, but he's playing against a different level of competition than USC. I have to believe that Barkley would pick apart the 118 ranked pass defense as well. But there were a few passes that I think Padron would have made on some of the deep routes.

This BCS nonsense is just nonsense. Watched the game with my brothers, both ASU grads. Both were amazed with Padron. Why couldn't ASU, Erickson find this kid.

Remember, the question is basically if you had the same offense who would you rather have at this point running it as a freshman. Barkley, Luck or Padron?

I wish SMU would ply ASU again. ASU is about to overtake SMU for the most NCAA violations. The NCAA is a joke that is real. I know JJ wants to play Hawaii, but a game with ASU would be a big win for SMU. The motivation? The monopoly money they threw on the kids, SMU should right this.

I honestly think that Padron throws a better/more consistent deep ball than either Luck or Barkley

I agree with that. His long passes seem much more effortless than Barkley's did the other night.

For the record, I think the monopoly money rain occurred and the University of Arizona, not ASU. I was at the U of A game and saw the incident with my own eyes. Andrew Luck is an incredible talent. I saw him mop up a good Oregon team, but Kyle is my guy and I am sticking with him.

Recently discovered that my alma mater was recruiting Kyle Padron prior to his commitment to SMU.

That first one was just a tad long, but Cole made a hell of a streaching out catch over his shoulder...so in the end it didn't matter. All in all, I think Padron throws a much more catchable pass than most QBs running around these days. One thing that BLM should spend some time on is learning to put some touch on his passes. It seems he throws the short ones as hard and fast as his long ones...some times that is necessary, but too often those passes wind up being dropped when a little touch on them would have produced a catch and some yardage...IMHO...of course.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
