Missouri, Texas, A&M out. TCU, SMU, Houston in. Problem solved.

If Colorado and Missouri depart for the Pac-10 and Big 10, it is more likely that they would be replaced by Colorado State and BYU. TCU and Houston then replacing Texas and A&M.

I only see SMU's hope in this scenario being if other conferences (Big 12, SEC, Pac-10) go to 14 as well. With enough such expansion SMU might emerge in a favorable position. Otherwise, I only see SMU remaining in C-USA with Louisiana Tech replacing Houston. That is, if such Big 10 expansion comes to be.

I think this does not happen, but the big 10,11 would love to get a piece of the tv markets in Texas and more exposure to Texas HS recruits.

If you carefully read the article you can tell the big ten is interested (duh) and UT is not (also duh).

UT has NOTHING to gain from that. Big ten expansion will be something more sensible - Rutgers or Missouri.

Texas does have one thing to gain from moving to the Big 10 - TV revenue. They currently make more than any other Big 12 school since revenue isnt shared equally but they would make significantly more in TV $$ by moving to the Big Ten. Still - a move to B10 seems unlikely.

if ut goes to the big 10 this is going to cause a massive shakeup in conferences where regions don't matter anymore.

i predict smu to the sec or big east.

texas leads the nation in d1 recruits followed by florida and california. no one else is even close. we could be be a valuable commodity. #5 tv markt in the country.

last one out of the big 12 turn off the lights.

i thoughts the big 12 was solid. guess not.

if ut and a&m go to the big 10 (state legislature wouldn't let ut go alone to pac 10 in 94) some predict the big 10 will go to 12 or 14 or even join another conference to make a super conference (i'm guessing the big east). that leaves the big 12 all but busted if colorado, mizzou or nebraska go to the pac 10.

ut is all about ut and will jump at the $s the big 10 has.

i always said the big 8 would rue the day they let ut in their conference. looks like i was right again.

The reason this rumor is gain to momentumn is because it looks like Colorado is interested in the Pac-10. This is creating some uncertainly surrounding the Big-12, so Texas just wants to weigh its options. The most likely scenario is that Colorado and Utah will join the Pac-10 and that the Big 12 will replace Colorado with TCU. However, in some circles, it is believed that if Colorado bolts to the Pac-10, Nebraska might kick the tires about bolting with them. So this uncertainty is causing Texas to keeps its options open. Texas has no interest in leaving the Big 12....but if it is the Big 12 minus Colorado and Nebraska....they might consider it.

i think the pac 10 would love to have colorado and nebraska (over utah). if nebraska hesitates and mizzou doesn't get the big 10 invite then mizzou would be a good backup plan. i don't see utah or byu going to the pac 10. a watered down big 12 might take one of them to fill a north spot.

I really don't think Nebraska would bolt to the PAC-10 even if they have a rivalry with Colorado. But, I could see a Big XII splintering if Mizzou leaves and Colorado leaves, then the Northern half is down to four and they won't want to backfill from Texas unless OU and OSU are willing to move north (can you say goodbye to the Red River Rivalry). At that point the Big XII South may want to look at becoming a separate conference and talking to their old SWC rivals and the Big XII north may want to separate and talk to some folks up north like BYU, Utah, and Memphis. I've always assumed that the conferences that were the easiest to hit were the Big East and the Mountain West. Every Big East team would jump to join the Big Ten in a heartbeat. Every MWC team would say bye the second they got a BCS offer. But if the Big XII becomes the carcass that is being picked, its hard to imagine what they'd do. WAC-16 showed that 16 was pretty unworkable. 12 is ideal, because that allows for crossover games every other year. 14 might meet resistance for that reason. 18 would in essence create two separate conferences and would probably make people unhappy without the benefit of having OOC games as an option. They'd be better off as 2 separate 9 team conferences. Boy that sort of sounds like the old SWC and Big 8 don't it.

The Big 12 has always been a forced marriage of sorts. I always felt what would be the best way to have a "heartland" conference would be to have the old SWC, minus Rice, Plus the Oklahoma and Kansas Schools. Thousands if not millions of reasons why this will never happen but this would be my favorite conference....
