Re: RealignmentPlease name in what way the Big ten is better then the Big 12 - I can think of no ways actually. THere is no reason for UT to make that move.
Who cares what the Mo gov says. he does not have a vote - and the atheltic director making that case to his board of regents will have no good reason to defend the move.
Re: RealignmentAttendance? Happy Valley, The Big House, The Horseshoe, etc.
Re: Realignment
If you don't think politics will play a role in these decisions, then you are sadly mistaken.
Re: RealignmentPolitics would be another reason UT is not going anywhere. In fact - that would be the ender on any potential shift to Pac 10 or Big Ten. Attendence would not be helped - it would be hurt - and money would be lneutral at best. The whole thing is just stupid from the word go - at least from UT's perspective.
Re: RealignmentIt's just a bad rumor. ....never would happen.
Re: Realignment
vandy may make more from sec than ut does from b12, but ut makes more overall bc b12 has a diff formula- they get to keep more. Bad argument dude. It's more lucrative for ut in b12 than p10 or b10.
Re: Realignment"The Pac-10 will only expand if it INCREASES revenue and Boise won't do that. They won't even be considered."
huh? They will increase revenues by adding anyone- it's called a conf champ game- plus a better chance at more bcs teams. Boise prob isn't a top desire, so name the two? Utah and Colorado seem obvious except Colorado isn't a great fit with west travel- despite their liberal administration and granola girls. Colorado has no ties to any of those schools, but does to neb and okla. So it's Utah and who? Byu should be it but conservative Christians don't mix well with the coastal Pac8. It may come down to Utah legislature saying both or neither a la vatech to acc
Re: Realignment
The quote was only about TV $ in the SEC, as overall UT makes way more than Vandy with their huge Athletic budget.
Re: RealignmentA championship game could add $5 Million to the conference. Not sure what they're take per team is now. The question is whether a team enhances their TV contract enough to offset feeding that extra mouth. Clearly, Colorado would add the Denver market which would enhance their TV contract. Boise would add like the 200th media market in the US. Doesn't do it. Utah would add Salt Lake City which is a top 25 market. UNLV would add a slightly larger market in Las Vegas, but it has academic issues. The California schools would veto any of the "State" schools like SDSU, FSU, SJU for political reasons. BYU would enhance their TV contract as the Mormon Notre Dame (although BYU has its own TV network and that could be an issue -BYU almost tanked the Mtn. network because of it - which could cause them to get vetoed). So, looking at the map, the PAC-10 would probably first go after Colorado and Utah and if turned down by Colorado would hold their nose and take BYU. Don't believe this would happen but if NE was wooed with Colorado, it might be very attractive to NE as a package deal. This would dagger the Big XII. No way the Whorns go to the Pac-10 politics and travel dictate otherwise. The Big Ten needs just one school. Looking at the map again, Pittsburgh is a smallish market, but Western PA is where schools like Ohio State like to recruit and it would give them some entree into that. Rutgers has some relation to the NYC market as does UConn. Syracuse has the academic street cred which the Big Ten likes. Mizzouri adds the St. Louis and KC markets which together help. Although Illinois already has some following in the St. Louis market. Nebraska is a huge name, Lincoln and Omaha are not big media names but Nebraska has a huge national brand. So, in the end, the Big XII could lose as many as three schools or none.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Realignment
Boise State's academics are also nowhere near what the Pac-10 requires. If the Pac-10 was desperate to expand and Boise State was its only option then perhaps they would be a legitimate candidate. However, given that the Pac-10 is not desperate and has other potential schools to consider for expansion, there is no realistic scenario in which Boise State is added to the Pac-10. Re: Realignment
Money. I can't remember exact figures, but ESPN did a story about TV contracts by conference at the end of last year. SEC was the biggest at like $280mm, Big 10 was about $210mm, and the Big 12 was about $120mm. Numbers fell off rapidly after that for each conference.
Re: RealignmentHope you're right, mr. pony. I don't see it but I'm way out here on the left coast & you're there.
Personally, I just wish the presidents & the NCAA would do what's right & put the ##$#@@ bcs-BS cartel out of its misery! ![]() BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
