If you are in only for the "perks'. You are better off going to a men's club and forking over $20.00 for a lap dance.
GO MUSTANGS!

I'll bite. University of Texas' minimum donation is $150 to Longhorn Foundation which is their equivalent of the Mustang Club. That's for "priority" in the ticket buying process. You don't have to necessarily donate to Longhorn Foundation to get tickets. However, it's a good idea if you do because their process is as follows

Orders received prior to the "Priority Handling Deadline" are filled before all other ticket orders, including individual game orders. The priority handling deadline date is May 29, 2009. All orders are filled in the following priority:
1. Longhorn Foundation donors (When filling single game tickets for Longhorn Foundation members, Longhorn Legacy level donors are filled first.)
2. UT letterwinners
3. Voting faculty / Code 1000 staff members (according to the UT Office of Human Resources)
4. Dues-paying Texas Exes members
5. General public
6. Ticket requests received after the "Priority Handling Deadline" are filled by date of receipt. Priority handling no longer applies.

As far as a minimum donation for seats on the 50 yard line, there is none. If they are available and you have priority, you get them.

My question to all of you is this - why constantly cite the University of Texas as justification for the Mustang Club prices when the University of Texas obviously has such a different process?

At UT you can go in and out of the stadium without the NO RETURN hassle that is a bummer at SMU.

Top 25 in everything we do mean GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE also.

BUS, the NO RETURN policy was put into place at UT after Sept 11 - at least in the section my dad's seats are in.

If you hate golf, I'm sorry I have no advice that will help you. Support your college, or otherwise don't, but quit worrying about what you get in return. How about what your college gave you

Some people will answer you back with, my college gave me a bill...

The motivation to join is to help the athletic department, tax write-off, and to help your team get better by affording more luxuries....

I am a member because I want to show my support for the advancements that have been taking place, and b/c I love SMU....

We have choices.

Some choose to give money to political candidates even thought they will receive nothing tangible in return. Other opportunities are to donate to charities, churches, or other non profits that don't give anything tangible in return. Often people give donations for some non tangible need that is met.

The Mustang Club is a choice without much in the way of tangible return. For some, that isn’t important. Giving money to support something non tangible meets a need for those people. In the end, it is our choice how we allocate our disposable income. The Mustang Club is one alternative. If something tangible is needed to fulfill that need, then the Mustang Club will probably be a low priority.

I give because I want to support SMU athletes. What little return (golf tourneys, luncheons, ticket priority) are of no value as I live too far way to take advantage of those opportunities. I Buy football season tickets knowing that I will at best make half the games. I certainly will not receive the full benefit of having tickets for every home game. In essence, I give for non tangible returns that happen to meet my needs.

For others, their needs may not be met by simply giving money to support a certain organization. The art of donations is to make people feel they are receiving something of value (not necessarily tangible). Thus, for enough money, a donor could get his/her name assigned to a building (plaque, brick, etc.) For a certain amount of donation, one gets their name in the program (recognition).

Good luck on your quest to understand whether a Mustang Club donation meets your needs. Hopefully, at some point, a donation will meet your needs.

And fellas please if you make a pledge to the Mustang Club pay the money or at the very least contact the Mustang Club to explain unforeseen circumstances that delay or cancel a pledge. There are those that made a pledge last year, then crow about it on PonyFans about "finally donating money to the Mustang Club because the model was fixed" then never make a payment on their pledge. How does that work? When I go to games down there you show you get a card on the way out of the stadium at halftime (or whenever) and when you come back in you have to show the card (which they take back) and your ticket. They do not look at the ticket to see which particular section you are sitting in.

How do they police it in your dad's section to make sure no one leaves the stadium? I assume he is allowed to leave the section to go to the concession stand or bathroom?

I am somewhat curious because I have wondered if there method is fool proof or if there is some way that someone can sneak a friend in due to their re-entry policy. I have never been able to find a loop hole though.

Wuba, I don't know when the last time was that you've been to the stadium, but they used to do that because they took your ticket where you entered your section (so that concessions and bathrooms were outside the ticketed area - and you got a "pass out ticket" when you had to leave to go to the concessions, bathrooms). Now, at least for the west side upper deck, you have to show your ticket before you get on the escalator that takes you to that particular upper deck. Concessions and bathrooms are now within the ticketed area, and you aren't allowed to leave the ticketed area during the game.
